The Kitchen is the action-packed film full of female bad-assery you all need to see.

This film is rated R, so I’d suggest to leave the children at home, but other then that everyone needs to watch this movie!

My sister has played The Godfather on occasion and I’ve seen bits of pieces here and there, but it’s enough to say that The Kitchen felt reminiscent to the heart of what The Godfather was all about. The violence, the family, the immorality.

On a side note, I loved that Melissa McCarthy played a role that wasn’t a humorous one. She is a queen of comedy, but seeing her in a dramatic role like this one was really awesome!

Anyway, these women kick some serious ass in this film! Yet, at the same time there was a undertone to each of their backstories that created a beautiful nuance to all of their characters. Them coming together and rising to the top being the heads of their own crime ring was incredible to watch.

The concept of the mafia has always fascinated me. I don’t know that much about it, but the idea of getting protection for payment, but also being threatened at the same time mixed in with rivalries and all sorts of immoral politics is fascinating to me. This movie reminded me of that curiosity in me that loves to try and understand and pick apart people’s reasonings and ways of living.

Claire was by far my favorite, but only by a small margin, because all three women were absolutely incredible. Her backstory and her rising up was the most amazing to see. Yet, it was also the most violent to see. She received the most violence in her life so she gives out the most violence and sometimes I didn’t know if I was rooting for her or grossed out just a bit.

Ruby of course was also incredible and she has so much more to her then meets the eye. The way she slides into her boss role was so awesome! She radiates this confidence the entire time that was so cool to see.

Then of course there is Kathy who has the most loving relationship with her husband and is the only one to have kids. She has the most balanced morality of all of them and she has a bite to her when she needs to.

All and all this is a fantastic film. It has grit. It has some mighty powerful women. It has some harshness. Some small morsels of humor. And a whole lot of powerful feminism.

I loved this film. I’m so glad I got to see it! I hope you all reading give this movie a chance.
