#MakeMeReadIt Read-A-Thon

I’m so excited to announce that I am going to be participating in The Make Me Read It marothon that begins next month! The whole interaction of having everyone pick what I’m going to be reading for a week via a poll sounds so cool to me. I have a feeling that this read-a-thon is going to be a fun one!

This readathon is hosted by @theinnocentsmiley and @teaandtitles

And this is what it is all about:

Look at the books you own, either physical, e-book or ones you’ve borrowed from the library and pick out a few you really want to read, or feel like you should read. It’s up to you how many you pick, personally I’d pick a few more than you expect to be able to read in a week. Example: if you think you’ll only read two, pick out five books or if you think you can read seven, pick out ten.
Make a list of these books on your blog, or make a video, or a Goodreads shelf or post a picture on Instagram—whatever is easiest for you. Then get friends, other bloggers/booktubers/bookstagrammers etc. to vote on which books you HAVE to read.
When the readathon comes along, you read the books in the order of most votes. For example, if one book gets 10 votes—you read that first, then the one that got 7 and so on. If there’s a tie, then it’s your preference. The goal is to read as many as possible.

The timing information:

The Make Me Read It Readathon will start at August 6th and end at August 13th. You can start once it hits 12am in your time zone. The readathon itself lasts for a week!

Since this is an interactive readathon, there is about a month to get some kind of initial post/photo/video/etc. where your readers can vote for which book you read! You can either have a poll, or just rely on the comments, have votes count more than once, honestly this is all up to you! If you plan to participate, make sure you have all your books ready for August 6th!

I have picked over 20 books for you all to pick from since I feel like it isn’t truly your choice unless there are way too many books for me to possibly read in the week (plus some choices I’m kind of afraid of that I have put off for ages…)

Choose my fate in the Goodreads poll HERE!

If you can’t participate in the poll for any reason just leave what your vote would be down in the comments! I will add it to the final results the day before the start of the read-a-thon.

Here is a mini-graph of the books I have choosen:

Thank you all for reading! Let me know what book you voted for in the Goodreads poll! Or if you couldn’t vote what book you would have chosen. I’m certain you won’t stear me into the wrong path.

-Till next time!

P.s. Yesterday was the first day I didn’t post anything in several months because I was terribly sick. I’m simply grateful that it was some sort of 24 hour virus because the pain and fever I was feeling was making me delirious. I had managed to write posts previously while I was sick but this time I just couldn’t manage it.

A Book A Day for the Rest of the Year?

This may be one of the best ideas I’ve ever had… or one of the worst ideas I have ever had, but I’m going to try it anyway.

So here’s the plan, it’s pretty simple. All I have to do is finish a book every single day for the rest of the year. Sounds pretty straightforward right? Well… not with the way I read. I tend to read a bunch of novels at one time. Which makes it so that I finish books sporodically and go at a relatively slow pace. I never read one book all the way through… well most of the time (cough cough Song of the Current cough cough)

I want to see what would happen if I really dedicated my time differently and read one book as a whole in a day. I’m not sure if this is sustainable or not. I’m not really sure how I’m going to pull this off. I’m probably going to find a way to read more then one book at a time anyway, but I just want to dip my toes in and let my bookworm heart devour some amazing novels! I have a physical tbr of 58 books, but new with new books coming into my life so steadily.. and with Netgalley books catching my heart left and right, I think I’ll be able to sustain this the rest of this year.

Weather stupid or not, no matter how tired I am, I will get through this. There are too many amazing stories in this world to read and I want to enjoy as many as I can. In a way I just want to see if I am capable of it or not. We shall see.

Thanks for reading! If you have any tips or suggestions let me know in the comments! I’m honestly really scared now, but I’m inspired so let’s do this!

Celebrating 1000 Followers!! + A Giveaway

The time has come and I always felt that I would never get to this point, but now that I’m here I am forever grateful. I don’t have words for how much this community means to me. How much the friendships and discussions I’ve had with so many fellow readers and writers have made my heart soar.

These past 9 months of blogging have been some of the best months of my life even though so many things have happened to put a damper on the sheer amount of good it all is worth it.

I want to share with you all on of my favorite pieces of my own writing. This piece is very personal and completely true. It means a lot to me to share it with you on such a momentous occasion.

It was written in response to a prompt about signposts and movement in our own lives. Somehow that transferred into colors to me.

Here are the colors of my beginnings:

In my mind’s eye I go back to the place where I began. I see the street where I grew up, the green expanse of the trees that surrounded my home. Then, finally, the interior that housed my family. The people I owe all my love and gratitude to. That is where my true journey began, in that apartment surrounded by trees and plants grown by my Godfather. My signposts were the color changes in the carpet, walls, and curtains. A beautiful psychedelic flash that marked my growth.

There were also signs that I remember in a grey dullness that matches the gloom I felt during my short passages through. Flashes of roads and mileage signs to Sacramento, Vegas, and places closer to my colorful true home. Grey memories of driving from new house to new house, new school to new school, each a new prison to keep me from the color I longed for.

The moving was constant. Every two years like clockwork. Every time my mother saw I was getting too attached it would be time to pack up, leave, and move on. We always came back, but every time we left was a new crack in my heart. I was too young to understand then why she kept taking me away, all I knew was that it hurt, and I wished it would stop.

Jealousy and want of control should never be in a mother’s heart.

That is what a journey is, a passage in which you change irrevocably, hardening and softening to the point that the person you were and who you are is so different that the only thing you can do is look back, but never touch those memories of how you used to be, even, how you used to think.

For me, even the light colors of the home I grew up in tinted off to a grey at the loss of it. So much warmth, love, and life that came to an end cumulating to a short travel to an apartment one city over. That travel is remembered in blue. The road leading up to the forrent sign tinged in the sadness of losing the one home in my life that had always been stable.

Now my life in that new apartment has gained a new color, the color of hope. Colors of travels to the zoo, walking serenely with my God Mom and sister, reading the various signs to the exhibits

leading up to the chimpanzees; this is where we would sit enjoying the astonishing similarity of the play of the young chimps, and the play of the children that were always there.

That is where my journey is now. In happy colors full of life and happy joys shared with the family that raised me.

The places and roads may change, but the people are the signs that I hold the most dear. They are those that lead me, changing me as they themselves change. They are the colors of my memory, their hands I hold into the light of my future.

Also it wouldn’t be a 1,000 celebration without a Giveaway so here is what you could receive:

The End of Pride Month

Today marks the end of pride month, but the fight for pride is never ending. It is so important that we all raise our voices for being more accepting and kind to one another. To work together as members of the human species instead of finding things to hate in our differences.

No matter what sexuality, race, or gender you are, know that you are important and that you matter. It breaks my heart everyday to see how easy people give in to a mindless and ignorant hate.

I am a white straight female and I acknowledge fully that pride month is not about me. It is about all the ones who suffer simply for the matter of what they feel their gender or sexuality to be. We all need to listen to the voices around us all the while voicing our own. Together we can create change. Together we can spread love. Together we can build a more accepting society.

These Are the Words I Live By

I think this is something that is too often forgotten. It’s really easy to feel angry at the conflicts of life (especially when people can be especially irritating) but we all need to remember that at all times we are only meeting a person in one small instance of their life. We cannot judge based off of a singular circumstance. We cannot know a person by the clothes their wearing or by weather they smile or not or weather they are in a group or alone or weather they glance your way or not.

The world is a place full of hurting people just trying to improve their quality of life. We are all sucky and rude sometimes to people. Why not try to be a little kinder? People are more then their first impressions. We all go through thousands of bad days. Why not spread love and acceptance? Let’s pick each other up.

#My500Words

One of the things that has been bothering me for a long time is that I haven’t been writing for my own projects and I need to change that. So, I thought that because my blog is the one thing in this world that I have dedicated myself to like nothing else I ever have that I was going to start #My500Words (something I saw another blogger do a long while back) and dedicate some time everyday to writing 500 words.

The biggest part of this challenge if you will is that I keep myself accountable by posting my word count daily on twitter and on the bottom of my blog posts. I want to make it a point that like how I literally cannot sleep without posting a blog post every night, that I can’t sleep until I also have written 500 words towards a story of some kind.

As of right now, I really feel weirdly about considering myself a writer without having written in a very long time and I wanted to do something to change that, so this is it!

I will be starting this challenge tomorrow and I hope I can keep it up indefinitely or as long as possible! I just think it would be cool to have a tracker of how many words I’ve written each day and how much those words can accumulate. I’m so excited!!! If any of you want to join in with me on this for however long you want I would happy to see you tag along.

Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts down in the comments. I look forward to hearing from you.

800 Followers!!! I don’t know what to do….

So here we are, not long from my 700 follower milestone and now sitting here thinking and wondering how 800 followers came by so quickly. I am astounded and humbled and so so grateful that you all thought that my content was worthy of being read. I am completely speechless that I’m here now when just a week ago I had one of the most terrible days of recent times and now I’m here and I just can’t be anything but eternally grateful to be a part of this community that never stops being a rock of support. It’s been just over seven months since The Book Raven began and I’ve never felt more love in a corner of the internet then I have in this one right here.

I feel like I should say more… do something more, but I’m at a loss for what to say… what to do. You are all the most amazing people in the world to me. Thank you.

Figuring Things Out

So many of you know about the story I told the day before yesterday about my no good very bad day. However, in the aftermath of it all there is this huge mess and now I’m left with trying to shift through it all and figure out what the heck do I do going forward.

One of the biggest things on my mind is that my crate business is not going to be able to be launched for August and all my planning for it is going to have to be put on the back burner for time being. This is one of my biggest angers about the whole ordeal. The fact that one of my biggest dreams for my future has to be put on hold because of a terrible thing my grandmother did and it leaves me extremely frustrated. The money I was planning to use for my crate is now going towards affording to purchase a car so that my family and I have freedom of travel (and compartment space for boxes and business stuff).

For right now though travel is covered by using the bus. (Although thinking about groceries and how far we have to walk to get them gives me a headache).

As far as mentally going forward, it’s a lot of those YouTube videos that puts a smile on my face and thinking about each moment of the day and the good things that are happening around me instead of the bad. I’ve been doing my best not to obsess over the situation and thinking about anything else. Also, books. Books are the best medicine.

Right now my biggest hope is to take things one step at a time and to rest as much as I can. All of the kind comments I have been recieveing lift me up so much and I am so grateful to have such an amazing community to just be there for me and to be there for each other.

Thank you all for reading! You all mean the world to me and I wish all the positive things in the world for all of you.

-Till next time!

Videos that make me smile!

So yesterday sucked and I just started feeling sick so I’m gonna share with you all some of the videos that make me happy, because I need them and sharing them feels good.

Anwho watch some, Russian roulette it to see if you got the over 1 long video. Laugh some. Learn that Markiplier trying not to laugh is amazing and that his laugh is absolutely contagious. Have some joy. We all need some. We all deserve some too.

To All Writers

Dear lovely fellow writer,

You have probably read more books then you could remember. You probably have read books that resonated with your soul. Books that have caused you to be in awe. Books that you have read over and over because they were just so good. Books that you learn something new about every time you read it. Books that you love.
The amazing thing is all books had to be written. Someone sat down and thought up a world with characters that have fascinated you. Someone that is no different from you. Just an ordinary person. Ordinary yet extraordinary.
Writers come from all sorts of backgrounds and walks of life. Yet every single one of them has a story to tell or better yet stories to tell. Things that need to be written down so that generations to come could read it. Stories that invaded their minds and yelled and screamed at them to be written. Stories that when they were first written were awkward and unpolished. That through the time and care of the writer became amazing examples of the written word.
Writers are truly amazing human beings whom take a lot of time out of their days just hammering out words to construct a story. Writing is never easy. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and just growing up. Writing is something that requires you to grow as a human being and discover who you are. Writing is intimately connected to your soul. It is an expression of who you are and what you dream of. A lot of the time quite literally what you dream of.
Writing requires you to care about what you write about and to love it. To want to care for it and lead it on its path to becoming the best version of itself. It is carrying out an initial idea and fleshing it out till it becomes this beautiful and unique story. The only way to write a story exactly like another’s is through copy and paste. Let your ideas shine and become what they are meant to be.
Good writing isn’t a natural diamond in the ruff, but creating a diamond from the ruff. It takes a lot of chiseling and mixing things up, but the ending product is always worth it.
To all writers I want to say that you are the reason I live the happy life I love. Your books put a smile on my face and excitement in my heart. Being able to be the kind of person that sits themselves down to write something even if it might be terrible at first is such an admirable quality. Every single author out there is such a great mentor for me. You are all the kinds of light I aspire to be.

Thank you for reading! This is another excerpt from my old wattpad novel, but also something I wanted to share for how much I appreciate authors. They truly are special little gems.
