The ABC Book Challenge: Unprecedented

It’s time for another episode of The ABC Challenge! This time it’s the Letter “U”.

On to the books!

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “U”:

Use the Force: a Jedi’s guide to the Law of Attraction

This book randomly came into my life and sense then I have read and learned a lot about the law of attraction. I’m still new to it, but sometimes it surprises me how well it can work.

Unhinged

This is my favorite cover of the Splintered series because Morpheus is my fav and he is absolutely gorgeous! He looks somewhat like an Elvis with long hair and I adore the circus vibes! I never have enough praise for the Splintered series!

Books I would Love to Read Starting with the Letter “U”:

Unpresidented by Martha Brockenbrough

“A riveting, meticulously researched, and provocative biography of Donald J. Trump from the author of Alexander Hamilton, Revolutionary.

Born into a family of privilege and wealth, he was sent to military school at the age of 13. After an unremarkable academic career, he joined the family business in real estate and built his fortune. His personal brand: sex, money and power. From no-holds-barred reality TV star to unlikely candidate, Donald J. Trump rose to the highest political office: President of the United States of America.

Learn fascinating details about his personal history, including:

-Why Trump’s grandfather left Germany and immigrated to America

-Why Woodie Guthrie wrote a song criticizing Trump’s father

-How Trump’s romance with Ivana began―and ended

-When Trump first declared his interest in running for President

Discover the incredible true story of America’s 45th President: his questionable political and personal conduct, and his unprecedented rise to power.

Richly informed by original research and illustrated throughout with photographs and documents, Unpresidented is a gripping and important read.”

I follow the woman that wrote this on Twitter and the research she put into this book is incredible. It is the only book on Trump I am interested in. I despise him. However, from what she’s said the history of his life and how he got to presidency is in a way fascinating. Plus, I love that it’s from a woman’s perspective.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

“Fighting to survive in a ravaged world, a Dweller and a Savage form an unlikely alliance in New York Times bestselling author Veronica Rossi’s “unforgettable dystopian masterpiece” (Examiner.com).

Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland—known as The Death Shop—are slim. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He’s wild—a savage—and her only hope of staying alive. A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile—everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria’s help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption.

In alternating chapters told in Aria’s and Perry’s voices, Under the Never Sky subtly and powerfully captures the evolving relationship between these characters and sweeps readers away to a harsh but often beautiful world. Continuing with Through the Ever Night and concluding with Into the Still Blue, the Under the Never Sky trilogy has already been embraced by readers in twenty-six countries and been optioned for film by Warner Bros.”

Fun dystopian Sci-fi with romance! Couldn’t ask for more.

The ABC Book Challenge: Total chaos!!!

Welcome back to the ABC Book Challenge! It’s time to talk about books starting with the Letter “T” and if you think I’m filling this post up with the’s it’s not happening. That’s far too simple.

On to the Books!

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “T”:

Talon

I love Julie Kagawa and I will forever read anything she writes. Admittedly Talon while awesome, isn’t my favorite of the books she written, but I do feel that it sets up the series really well. Either way, it’s 100% worth the Read!

Tricks

This book is intense. I will never forget the feeling I got while reading it. It’s really good however, like with many of Ellen’s books I wouldn’t read this in a bad mental state. It deals with some dark stuff.

Books I’d Love to Read Starting with the Letter “T”:

Tarot

“Anna was never supposed to exist. Born of a forbidden union between the Queen and the tyrannical King’s archnemesis, Anna is forced to live out her days isolated in the Tower, with only her mentors and friends the Hermit, the Fool, and the Magician to keep her company. To pass the time, Anna imagines unique worlds populated by creatives and dreamers—the exact opposite of the King’s land of fixed fates and rigid rules—and weaves them into four glorious tapestries.

But on the eve of her sixteenth birthday and her promised release from the Tower, Anna discovers her true lineage: She’s the daughter of Marco, a powerful magician, and the King is worried that his magical gifts are starting to surface in Anna. Fearing for her life, Anna flees the Tower and finds herself in Cups, a lush, tropical land full of all the adventure, free-spiritedness, and creativity she imagined while weaving.

Anna thinks she’s found paradise in this world of beachside parties, endless food and drink, and exhilarating romance. But when the fabric of Cups begins to unravel, Anna discovers that her tapestries are more than just decoration. They’re the foundation for a new world that she is destined to create—as long as the terrors from the old world don’t catch up with her first.”

I’ve been learning about Tarot a lot recently. It has a lot of fascinating elements to it. A fantasy based off of the Tarot is really unique to me and I’d love to pick it up.

Tin Heart

“Bestselling author of All the Bright Places Jennifer Niven calls emerging talent Shivaun Plozza’s charming and romantic second YA novel, Tin Heart, “from cover to cover swoon-worthy, moving, deep, and funny”!

When Marlowe gets a heart transplant and a second chance at life, all she wants to do is to thank her donor’s family. Maybe then she can move on. Maybe then she’ll discover who she is if she’s no longer The Dying Girl.

But with a little brother who dresses like every day is Halloween, a vegan warrior for a mother, and an all-out war with the hot butcher’s apprentice next door, Marlowe’s life is already pretty complicated. And her second chance is about to take an unexpected turn…”

This book sounds incredible! I’d love the chance to read it. I hope I can one day pick this book up!

The ABC Book Challenge: The Sands of time!

We at it again with the ABC Book Challenge! We are getting closer and closer to the finish line and I’m excited to finish this out and start out new tags and challenges for the future.

On to the books!

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “S”:

Starfish

At one point this book was #1 book of all time and it is still a book I absolutely adore. However, it’s edged out by my original #1 The Giver simply because on a re-read I realized that some of the reasons I adored the book no longer apply. (Although, most of my reasons are still sound.. I’d recommend this book to anyone and everyone). Either way, I’ll shout out my love of this book off rooftops. I adore it to the end!

Stalking Jack the Ripper

Kerri has such amazing writing and I am so invested in Audrey’s story! I just got to start Escaping from Houdini and the writing has only gotten better! I love these books!

Books I’d Love to Read Starting with the Letter “S”:

Six of Crows

Enter the Grishaverse with the #1 New York Times–bestselling Six of Crows.

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .

A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager.

A runaway with a privileged past.

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo returns to the breathtaking world of the Grishaverse in this unforgettable tale about the opportunity—and the adventure—of a lifetime”

A beloved book that I’m lucky enough to have been gifted on my shelves. I am excited to read it someday soon!

Stitching Snow

“Princess Snow is missing. Her home planet is filled with violence and corruption at the hands of King Matthias and his wife as they attempt to punish her captors. The king will stop at nothing to get his beloved daughter back—but that’s assuming she wants to return at all. Essie has grown used to being cold. Temperatures on the planet Thanda are always sub-zero, and she fills her days with coding and repairs for the seven loyal drones that run the local mines. When a mysterious young man named Dane crash-lands near her home, Essie agrees to help the pilot repair his ship. But soon she realizes that Dane’s arrival was far from accidental, and she’s pulled into the heart of a war she’s risked everything to avoid. In her enthralling debut, R.C. Lewis weaves the tale of a princess on the run from painful secrets . . . and a poisonous queen. With the galaxy’s future—and her own—in jeopardy, Essie must choose who to trust in a fiery fight for survival.”

I saw this book in a thrift store and had to pick it up! It looks like an awesome Sci-fi retelling!

The ABC Book Challenge: check out the Ratings!

And so the saga continues…. it is ever closer to the end and this challenge is literally over a year in the making.. I will finally feel free once this is all over, but for now, it’s time to celebrate books with the Letter “R”.

On to the books!

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “R”:

Ramona Blue

I adore this book! It’s so well written. It has great characters and a great plot. It’s fast paced and it talks about some really important subjects. I highly recommend this contemporary.

Rogue

I love Julie Kagawa! Her works are incredible and I’ve enjoyed every book I’ve read from her. Rogue is no exception and I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!

Books I’d Love to Read Starting with the Letter “R”:

Replica

“Lyra’s story begins in the Haven Institute, a building tucked away on a private island off the coast of Florida that from a distance looks serene and even beautiful. But up close the locked doors, military guards, and biohazard suits tell a different story. In truth, Haven is a clandestine research facility where thousands of replicas, or human models, are born, raised, and observed. When a surprise attack is launched on Haven, two of its young experimental subjects—Lyra, or 24, and the boy known only as 72—manage to escape.

Gemma has been in and out of hospitals for as long as she can remember. A lonely teen, her life is circumscribed by home, school, and her best friend, April. But after she is nearly abducted by a stranger claiming to know her, Gemma starts to investigate her family’s past and discovers her father’s mysterious connection to the secretive Haven research facility. Hungry for answers, she travels to Florida, only to stumble upon two replicas and a completely new set of questions.

While the stories of Lyra and Gemma mirror each other, each contains breathtaking revelations critically important to the other story. Using hotlinks in this electronic edition, readers can decide how they would like to read the book, as with the print version. They can read the story of Gemma or Lyra straight through first, followed by the other girl’s story, or they can move between chapters in Lyra’s and Gemma’s sections. No matter how it is read, Replica is an ambitious, thought-provoking masterwork.”

I own this book and still haven’t gotten to it. Trust me, I’m going to be reading this very soon. I’ve always loved the idea of the format and with two more in the series I know I’m going to devour it!

Reign of the Fallen

“Without the dead, she’d be no one.

Odessa is one of Karthia’s master necromancers, catering to the kingdom’s ruling Dead. Whenever a noble dies, it’s Odessa’s job to raise them by retrieving their soul from a dreamy and dangerous shadow world called the Deadlands. But there is a cost to being raised: the Dead must remain shrouded. If even a hint of flesh is exposed, a grotesque transformation begins, turning the Dead into terrifying, bloodthirsty Shades.

A dramatic uptick in Shade attacks raises suspicions and fears around the kingdom. Soon, a crushing loss of one of her closest companions leaves Odessa shattered, and reveals a disturbing conspiracy in Karthia: Someone is intentionally creating Shades by tearing shrouds from the Dead–and training them to attack. Odessa is forced to contemplate a terrifying question: What if her magic is the weapon that brings the kingdom to its knees?

Fighting alongside her fellow mages–and a powerful girl as enthralling as she is infuriating–Odessa must untangle the gruesome plot to destroy Karthia before the Shades take everything she loves.

Perfect for fans of Three Dark Crowns and Red Queen, Reign of the Fallen is a gutsy, unpredictable read with a surprising and breathtaking LGBT romance at its core.”

I also own this book and I’m mad at how long it’s taken me to pick it up.. I’m going to read this very soon! It’s really high up on my tbr.

The ABC Book Challenge: The Queendom has Arrived

I’ve been updating regularly and I don’t want to stop just because I’m out of ideas for what to post today (especially because my main post ideas are going to take time I don’t have right now) so here we are with another ABC Book Challenge post! I’m charging through these at the moment. I’m at a point where I feel like I can see the end.

On with the books!

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “Q” :

Queens of Geek

I don’t know why I didn’t review this book. I totally forgot to. However the book is quite memorable and so worth the read! It’s funny, cute, and adorable! I highly recommend it!

Queen of Shadows

This book is SO GOOD!! Most everyone in the community knows about Throne of Glass and it is a popular series for a reason. It’s an all around amazing fantasy and I love it!

Books I’d Love to Read Starting with the Letter “Q”:

Quarantine: A Love Story

Oliver wants a girlfriend, and there’s a girl back home who might be interested in him. The problem is, he has to spend his spring break on a volunteer trip in the Dominican Republic. Flora, on the other hand, isn’t really looking for a boyfriend. She just wants to end a miserable spring break visiting her dad and her new stepmom in the D.R.

The solution to both their problems? Get back home to New York ASAP. Sadly, they won’t be getting there anytime soon.

Their hopes are dashed when Flora’s impulsiveness lands them in quarantine — just the two of them. Now, the two teens must come together in order to survive life in a bubble for 30 days. In that time, love will bloom. But is it the real thing, or just a placebo effect?

In her debut novel, Katie Cicatelli-Kuc delivers an introspective and witty story about finding love in the most unexpected place.

This Story sounds cute. I sometimes need books like this. Plus, I’m so in love with this cover! It’s so adorable!

Queen of Hearts

“The first novel in Colleen Oakes’s epic, imaginative series tells the origin of one of the most infamous villains—the Queen of Hearts.

This is not the story of the Wonderland we know. Alice has not fallen down a rabbit hole. This is a Wonderland where beneath each smile lies a secret, each tart comes with a demand, and only prisoners tell the truth.

Dinah is the princess who will one day reign over Wonderland. She has not yet seen the dark depths of her kingdom; she longs only for her father’s approval and a future with the boy she loves. But when a betrayal breaks her heart and threatens her throne, she is launched into Wonderland’s dangerous political game. Dinah must stay one step ahead of her cunning enemies or she’ll lose not just the crown but her head.”

Fantasy about the origin of the queen of hearts? I need to read this!

The ABC Book Challenge: what’s up Pal!

Welcome back to one of the few challenges I am wholly committed to completing the ABC book challenge! We are on to the letter “P” and I’m very happy to continue moving forward.

On to the books!

Memorable Books That Start With the Letter “P”:

Pretties

This Book is a big part of the beginning of my reading life. I remember loving the Uglies series when. I was younger and I may no longer own the books, but the memory stays forever.

Passion

I don’t know if I’d touch this series now, but in elementary, I loved the hell out of the fallen series. I don’t actually remember much about Passion, but Perks starts with The so I am trying to stay true to my formula here. I just remember having a fat crush on Luce.

Books I’d Love to Read Starting With the Letter “P”:

P.S. I Still Love You

Given the way love turned her heart in the New York Times bestselling To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, which School Library Journal called a “lovely, lighthearted romance,” it’s no surprise that Laura Jean still has letters to write.

Lara Jean didn’t expect to really fall for Peter.

She and Peter were just pretending. Except suddenly they weren’t. Now Lara Jean is more confused than ever.

When another boy from her past returns to her life, Lara Jean’s feelings for him return too. Can a girl be in love with two boys at once?

In this charming and heartfelt sequel to the New York Times bestseller To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, we see first love through the eyes of the unforgettable Lara Jean. Love is never easy, but maybe that’s part of what makes it so amazing.

I FINALLY own this book!!! After so many years of wanting to read it I own it and I hope to get to it very soon!

Pumpkinheads

In Pumpkinheads, beloved #1 New York Timesbestselling author Rainbow Rowell and Eisner Award–winning artist Faith Erin Hicks have teamed up to create this tender and hilarious story about two irresistible teens discovering what it means to leave behind a place—and a person—with no regrets.

Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends.

Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. (Not many people know that the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world is in Omaha, Nebraska, but it definitely is.) They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.

But this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.

Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .

What if their last shift was an adventure?”

One of my life’s goals is to read some good graphic novels. This one looks like it could be one of them. It looks adorable and fluffy and full of autumn vibes and I am all for it!

The ABC Book Challenge: nothing is an Obstacle

Welcome back to the ABC Book Challenge! I’m getting closer to finishing this and I can’t wait till I do!

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “O”:

Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

I remember this being read to me and my classmates senior year by one of my teachers. It was a really sweet and positive message and though it is a children’s book I will always remember that moment.

Of Mice and Men

I read this book for school at some point and while I may not have loved it I did remember enjoying it. I remember having discussions on this book that were interesting.

Books I’d love to read Stating with the Letter “O”:

Our Chemical Hearts

“John Green meets Rainbow Rowell in this irresistible story of first love, broken hearts, and the golden seams that put them back together again.

Henry Page has never been in love. He fancies himself a hopeless romantic, but the slo-mo, heart palpitating, can’t-eat-can’t-sleep kind of love that he’s been hoping for just hasn’t been in the cards for him—at least not yet. Instead, he’s been happy to focus on his grades, on getting into a semi-decent college and finally becoming editor of his school newspaper. Then Grace Town walks into his first period class on the third Tuesday of senior year and he knows everything’s about to change.

Grace isn’t who Henry pictured as his dream girl—she walks with a cane, wears oversized boys’ clothes, and rarely seems to shower. But when Grace and Henry are both chosen to edit the school paper, he quickly finds himself falling for her. It’s obvious there’s something broken about Grace, but it seems to make her even more beautiful to Henry, and he wants nothing more than to help her put the pieces back together again. And yet, this isn’t your average story of boy meets girl. Krystal Sutherland’s brilliant debut is equal parts wit and heartbreak, a potent reminder of the bittersweet bliss that is first love.”

I’ve wanted to read this book for a while. I got the chance to purchase it pretty cheaply at Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago so hopefully I can get to read this book sometime soon.

On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

““Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery. Brilliantly structured, friendly and inspiring, On Writing will empower and entertain everyone who reads it—fans, writers, and anyone who loves a great story well told.”

This book has literally been the one book I’ve been wanting to read and get my hands on for ages! I did have the chance to read it a few times, but the last time was a long story and it doesn’t feel right to touch it right now. But, one day I’ll purchase a copy of my own and read it then.

Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts down in the comments below.

The ABC Book Challenge: it’s a Never ending story

The ABC Book Challenge continues with the letter “N”. I’m still going strong with this and honestly after so much time has past, I’m really proud. After this there are 12 more posts and possibly 2 bonuses that I’ve thought about since I first decided to take on this challenge. But, that’s for the future. On to the books!

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “N”:

Night World

The Night World Series is one of my favorites from the start of my reading career. One day I will own this version of these books, but for now I am happy to own the older versions I used to own many years ago.

New Moon

Another old book that was actually the reason I started getting into reading. I no longer own any of the Twilight saga, but I will never forget the books that brought me into the world of reading.

Books I’d love to read Stating with the Letter “N”:

Nocturna

“To Finn Voy, magic is two things: a knife to hold under the chin of anyone who crosses her…and a disguise she shrugs on as easily as others pull on cloaks.

As a talented faceshifter, it’s been years since Finn has seen her own face, and that’s exactly how she likes it. But when Finn gets caught by a powerful mobster, she’s forced into an impossible mission: steal a legendary treasure from Castallan’s royal palace or be stripped of her magic forever.

After the murder of his older brother, Prince Alfehr is first in line for the Castallan throne. But Alfie can’t help but feel that he will never live up to his brother’s legacy. Riddled with grief, Alfie is obsessed with finding a way to bring his brother back, even if it means dabbling in forbidden magic.

But when Finn and Alfie’s fates collide, they accidentally unlock a terrible, ancient power—which, if not contained, will devour the world. And with Castallan’s fate in their hands, Alfie and Finn must race to vanquish what they have unleashed, even if it means facing the deepest darkness in their pasts.”

I’m in this for the cover. It’s completely gorgeous. The fact that this is an own voices novel is a plus.

Never-Contented Things

“Prince and his fairy courtiers are staggeringly beautiful, unrelentingly cruel, and exhausted by the tedium of the centuries—until they meet foster-siblings Josh and Ksenia. Drawn in by their vivid emotions, undying love for each other, and passion for life, Prince will stop at nothing to possess them.

First seduced and then entrapped by the fairies, Josh and Ksenia learn that the fairies’ otherworldly gifts come at a terrible price—and they must risk everything in order to reclaim their freedom.”

Again here for the cover.. it’s so creepy cool! Seems like people either love or hate this book, but I’m in it for the gamble.

Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts down in the comments below.

The ABC Book Challenge: Making it golden

I bet the lot of you didn’t expect me to keep this going after not doing one of these in months, but once I make a promise to do something I keep it. I’m getting through this challenge.. one way or another.

On to the books!

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “M”:

Magic with Skin On

“In her much-anticipated debut poetry collection, Morgan Nikola-Wren has woven her signature romantic grit through a stunning, modern-day fairy tale. Chronicling the relationship between a lonely artist and her absent–albeit abusive–muse, Magic with Skin On will gently break you, then put you back together again.”

This was a magical poetry collection. It was really fun to read and had some beautiful and unique poems. I was so happy for the chance to read it!

Milk and Honey

“Rupi Kaur’s milk and honey, is a New York Times bestselling collection of poetry and prose about survival, the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity.

The book is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. milk and honey takes listeners through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them—because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look.”

The highly popular Milk and Honey is another really great poetry collection. I enjoyed the artistic nature of it most.

Books I’d Love to Read Starting with the Letter “M”:

Missing, Presumed Dead

“When eighteen-year-old Lexi foresees the brutal murder of a young woman outside a club in downtown L.A., she is powerless to stop it.

But then the girl’s ghost appears, seeking vengeance, and Lexi is swept into a dangerous search that could put her directly in the path of a serial killer. From the author of Devils Unto Dust, this fast-paced and literary thriller will haunt fans of Maureen Johnson’s Truly Devious and Karen M. McManus’s One of Us Is Lying.

With a touch, Lexi can sense how and when someone will die. Some say it’s a gift. But to Lexi it’s a curse—one that keeps her friendless and alone. All that changes when Lexi foresees the violent death of a young woman, Jane, outside a club.

Jane doesn’t go to the afterlife quietly. Her ghost remains behind, determined to hunt down her murderer, and she needs Lexi’s help. In life, Jane was everything Lexi is not—outgoing, happy, popular. But in death, all Jane wants is revenge.

Lexi will do anything to help Jane, to make up for the fact that she didn’t—couldn’t—save Jane’s life, and to keep this beautiful ghost of a girl by her side for as long as possible.

Emma Berquist’s second novel is a haunting and atmospheric murder mystery that tackles themes of depression, loneliness, love, and identity. This high-concept novel is for fans of Holly Black’s The Coldest Girl in Coldtown and Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me series.”

Paranormal criminal investigation? Count me in!

Meat Market

“Jana Novak’s history sounds like a classic model cliché: tall and gangly, she’s uncomfortable with her androgynous looks until she’s unexpectedly scouted and catapulted to superstardom.

But the fashion industry is as grimy as it is glamorous. And there are unexpected predators at every turn.

Jana is an ordinary girl from a south London estate, lifted to unimaginable heights. But the further you rise, the more devastating your fall …

Honest and raw, this is a timely exposé of the dark underbelly of the fashion industry in an era of #TimesUp and #MeToo. It might just be Juno Dawson’s most important book yet.

‘Juno Dawson slashes through the glamour of the fashion industry … combining blockbuster appeal with piercing commentary on modelling, body image and consent’ Observer”

Honestly in this for the cover… but the story itself sounds so unique and unlike anything I’ve read before.

Thanks for reading! Let me know your thoughts down in the comments below.

The ABC Book Challenge: Look a star!

You know I’m starting to feel a bit of normalcy when I kick out this challenge! It feels good to feel like I’m living in my own skin again. I always promised to complete this challenge and so of course I have to keep the train moving.

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “L”:

Little & Lion

“When Suzette comes home to Los Angeles from her boarding school in New England, she isn’t sure if she’ll ever want to go back. L.A. is where her friends and family are (along with her crush, Emil). And her stepbrother, Lionel, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, needs her emotional support.

But as she settles into her old life, Suzette finds herself falling for someone new…the same girl her brother is in love with. When Lionel’s disorder spirals out of control, Suzette is forced to confront her past mistakes and find a way to help her brother before he hurts himself–or worse.”

Little & Lion is such a beautiful story. It’s about family and how hard sometimes being family could be and how far you would go for them anyway.

Looking for Alaska

“Before. Miles “Pudge” Halter is done with his safe life at home. His whole life has been one big non-event, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave “the Great Perhaps” even more (Francois Rabelais, poet). He heads off to the sometimes crazy and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young. She is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart. Then. . . .

After. Nothing is ever the same.”

I will always remember the experience of reading this book. I don’t think that it will ever be possible for me to forget it. It will remain a major part of my life’s journey.

Books I’d Love to Read Starting with the Letter “L”:

Little White Lies

“”I’m not saying this is Sawyer’s fault,” the prim and proper one said delicately. “But.”

Eighteen-year-old auto mechanic Sawyer Taft did not expect her estranged grandmother to show up at her apartment door and offer her a six-figure contract to participate in debutante season. And she definitely never imagined she would accept. But when she realizes that immersing herself in her grandmother’s “society” might mean discovering the answer to the biggest mystery of her life-her father’s identity-she signs on the dotted line and braces herself for a year of makeovers, big dresses, bigger egos, and a whole lot of bless your heart. The one thing she doesn’t expect to find is friendship, but as she’s drawn into a group of debutantes with scandalous, dangerous secrets of their own, Sawyer quickly discovers that her family isn’t the only mainstay of high society with skeletons in their closet. There are people in her grandmother’s glittering world who are not what they appear, and no one wants Sawyer poking her nose into the past. As she navigates the twisted relationships between her new friends and their powerful parents, Sawyer’s search for the truth about her own origins is just the beginning.

Set in the world of debutante balls, grand estates and rolling green hills, Little White Lies combines a charming setting, a classic fish-out-of-water story, and the sort of layered mystery only author Jennifer Lynn Barnes can pull off.”

I don’t know much of anything about Debutantes. However, this book sounds full of the kind of drama I can get behind reading about so, I definitely want to give this book a chance!

Let’s Go Swimming on Doomsday

“Forced to become a child soldier, a sixteen-year-old Somali refugee must confront his painful past in this haunting, thrilling tale of loss and redemption for fans of A Long Way Gone and What is the What

When Abdi’s family is kidnapped, he’s forced to do the unthinkable: become a child soldier with the ruthless jihadi group Al Shabaab. In order to save the lives of those he loves, and earn their freedom, Abdi agrees to be embedded as a spy within the militia’s ranks and to send dispatches on their plans to the Americans. The jihadists trust Abdi immediately because his older brother, Dahir, is already one of them, protégé to General Idris, aka the Butcher. If Abdi’s duplicity is discovered, he will be killed.

For weeks, Abdi trains with them, witnessing atrocity after atrocity, becoming a monster himself, wondering if he’s even pretending anymore. He only escapes after he is forced into a suicide bomber’s vest, which still leaves him stumps where two of his fingers used to be and his brother near death. Eventually, he finds himself on the streets of Sangui City, Kenya, stealing what he can find to get by, sleeping nights in empty alleyways, wondering what’s become of the family that was stolen from him. But everything changes when Abdi’s picked up for a petty theft, which sets into motion a chain reaction that forces him to reckon with a past he’s been trying to forget.

In this riveting, unflinching tale of sacrifice and hope, critically-acclaimed author Natalie C. Anderson delivers another tour-de-force that will leave readers at the edge of their seats.”

Just look at that cover and tell me that what lies beneath isn’t going to be one of the most powerful stories you’ll ever read? This book looks amazing! I can’t wait to read it!
