The ABC Book Challenge: hail to the Kingdoms!

I haven’t done this challenge in AGES! However, I promised I would see this through to the end and I keep my promises. So this challenge is back and we are continuing on with the letter “K”.

Memorable Books that Start with the Letter “K”:

Honestly, this is the first time I cannot find any books I’ve read that fit starting with the letter “k” just strictly with the letter “k” and that are also memorable. I’d read one book way back when called Kissed by an Angel and I didn’t even like it. So as far as this goes. This is my first failure. In my defense the letter K is kinda hard to come by as the very first letter in a title. I just haven’t read any good books with this letter.

Books I’d love to read starting with the letter “K”:

Kingdom of Ash

I’m not using the description here, because I don’t want any spoilers. However, this book is one I definitely want to read and badly! I’ve really enjoyed the Throne of Glass series and this book sounds like it’s going to be no exception.

Kingdom of the Blazing Phoenix

I own Forest of a Thousand Lanterns and I can’t wait to read it! I know I’m going to love both books in this series! Again I’m not including the description as this is a second book and I haven’t read either yet.

One of my all time favorite classics Jane Eyre of course is one of the most memorable reads of my life. I read it as an audiobook and it is the only audiobook I’ve ever read.. and it was so good! I love everything about Jane Eyre!

This book made my heart all fuzzy and warm. I read it because I think I’ve always wanted that romance on the ice (one of the places where I’ve felt the most free and beautiful). I’ve always loved figure skating romance movies and the girl who skated who skated for almost 5 years sometimes wishes she could go back and feel that kind of freedom again.

Well, well, well, if it isn’t a rendition of my most memorable read with the letter “J”. A really awesome one that I’m really mad that I own and haven’t read yet. Plus it has one of the most awesome covers ever!

This book as I have mentioned somewhere on my blog before is a hard book to read emotionally. I read this book at a perfect time where my mental health wasn’t so vulnerable and I felt some sort of strength. It’s weird to think I always said this when I read this long before I knew that I had depression. I knew that a different time this would have triggered some dark thoughts. So I always advise care when reading this.

What a brilliant novel this is!!! I loved the sarcasm, the adventure, the everything!!! I need to get my hands on a copy of Gemina!!

I’ve had this book on my shelves for a while now. I’ve always had a love for Japan and Japanese culture and reading a book set in that place would make me very happy.

I read an excerpt of this and was sent an arc that I still haven’t gotten too *yikes*. However, what I have read of this is absolutely breathtaking. I know that this is going to be a 5 star read based off of one chapter. I can’t wait to free my Netgalley tbr and read this!

I love this book! The Stalking Jack the Ripper series is one of my favorites and I can’t recommend it enough! This was a lovely sequel.

Books I Would Love to Read Beginning with “H”:

Hidden Pieces

I have always loved the concept for this book. When I read it I truly enjoyed all the political nuance and plot. It’s a great book for sure!

Books I would love to read starting with the letter “G”:

Given to the Sea

Gemina

The ABC book challenge: It’s absolutely Fabulous!

Another day another chance to keep on moving forward with the ABC book challenge! This time we’re taking a look at books featuring the “f” and oddly enough I’m being taken back to my Sesame Street Days.

Memorable books that start with “F”:

The ABC Book Challenge: ohh it’s Delightful

I haven’t forgotten about this challenge. I am just going to steadily move along with it until the very end. The letter of the day is “D” and there are some wonderful books beginning with this letter that I have a lot of love for.

I loved this book with everything in me when I first got to read it. Dorthy being the evil and having a pink haired heroine go after her was so awesome. Oddly dark, but a whole lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this book.

Deep Blue is the book that made me realize that Mermaid books could be something so much more. Fully underwater it tells the tale of adventure and friendship you didn’t know you needed.

Books I Wish to Read Starting with the Letter “D”:

Daughter of the Pirate King

There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for.

This book has a premise that is one of my not-so-guilty pleasures! I would be so happy to one day pick this book up. It sounds amazing!

Dance of Thieves

The ABC Book Challenge: It’s a Calling

It’s been a few days since I did my last post of this and I wanted to continue on and steadily move forward with this fun series.

Memorable Books that Start with “C”:

Crank

In Crank, Ellen Hopkins chronicles the turbulent and often disturbing relationship between Kristina, a character based on her own daughter, and the “monster,” the highly addictive drug crystal meth, or “crank.” Kristina is introduced to the drug while visiting her largely absent and ne’er-do-well father. While under the influence of the monster, Kristina discovers her sexy alter-ego, Bree: “there is no perfect daughter, / no gifted high school junior, / no Kristina Georgia Snow. / There is only Bree.” Bree will do all the things good girl Kristina won’t, including attracting the attention of dangerous boys who can provide her with a steady flow of crank.

This was the first book I ever read by Ellen Hopkins and it was brought me into the world of novel poetry. It was so powerful for me and I loved this intense novel.

Carry Me Home

Lucy and Ruth are country girls from a broken home. When they move to the city with their mother, leaving behind their family ranch and dead-beat father, Lucy unravels.

They run to their grandparents’ place, a trailer park mobile home in the barrio of San Jose. Lucy’s barrio friends have changed since her last visit. They’ve joined a gang called VC. They teach her to fight, to shank, to beat a person unconscious and play with guns. When things get too heavy, and lives are at stake, the three girls head for LA seeking a better life.

But trouble always follows Lucy. She befriends the wrong people, members of another gang, and every bad choice she makes drags the family into her dangerous world.

Told from three points of view, the story follows Lucy down the rabbit hole, along with her mother and sister as they sacrifice dreams and happiness, friendships and futures. Love is waiting for all of them in LA, but pursuing a life without Lucy could mean losing her forever.

Ultimately it’s their bond with each other that holds them together, in a true test of love, loss and survival.

This book was intense and I will never forget it because it takes place in the area I grew up. It was so cool to know the places described in a book because you’ve lived there for so long. It’s a difficult read, but super engaging.

Books I wish to read starting with “C”:

Crazy House

No one gets out alive.

Seventeen-year-old Becca Greenfield was snatched from her home and thrown without reazon into a hellish prison known as the Crazy House. To avoid execution, she’s told to shut her mouth and keep her head down.

Becca was never really good at either.

I have a hardcover copy of this book that I got in the mail randomly. I am so excited to read it! It sounds so unique, spooky, and interesting.

Contagion

Perfect for fans of Madeleine Roux, Jonathan Maberry, and horror films like 28 Days Later and Resident Evil, this pulse-pounding, hair-raising, utterly terrifying novel is the first in a duology from the critically acclaimed author of the Taken trilogy.

After receiving a distress call from a drill team on a distant planet, a skeleton crew is sent into deep space to perform a standard search-and-rescue mission.

When they arrive, they find the planet littered with the remains of the project—including its members’ dead bodies. As they try to piece together what could have possibly decimated an entire project, they discover that some things are best left buried—and some monsters are only too ready to awaken.

This book comes or in July. It’s a release that markets itself as for fans of Resident Evil and those are some tough shoes to fill. It makes me anxious to try out this book!

The ABC Book Challenge: It Starts With A

I first saw this challenge on Ashley’s book blog Thrifty Bibliophile and I had to try it out for myself. This challenge is a long haul kind of challenge and I’ll be sticking it out from A to Z so I hope you enjoy it!

Memorable titles that start with the letter “A”:

I ADORE And I Darken. It’s such a fun read. No one in this book is wholly good or bad and I love the rich storytelling. It is one of the best books I read last year for sure!

A Court of Thorns and Roses

Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

I LOVE ACOTAR! Sara J. Maas really knows how to write a great fantasy. I loved all the characters in this book and even though it all changes later I will forever hold on to the feelings I had when I first read ACOTAR.

Books Starting with “A” that I wish to read:

Anna Dressed in Blood

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. They follow legends and local lore, destroy the murderous dead, and keep pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

Searching for a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas expects the usual: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

Yet she spares Cas’s life.

I’m in love with horror and Anna seems like an awesome horror novel that I would love. I don’t have enough horror stories on my shelves and I hope to someday add many more.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

I have heard amazing things about this novel. It is well loved and I want to one day see why for myself. It seems like it would be a beautiful story and I hope the day will come to read it very soon.
