Watching: The Christmas Calendar

I just got done watching probably one of the cutest and most romantic Christmas movies I’ve watched. It has everything I love about a good romantic Christmas movie magic, curiosity, adorable moments, and absolute wonder. Christmas is the most magical time of the year. Falling in love during that time sounds like another kind of magic.

Emily receives a Christmas Calendar with little notes from a secret admirer. The whole town gets involved as each day the mystery unravels itself and everyone is wondering who is the guy? Overall, the concept is adorable. Who wouldn’t want to be wooed in such a creative and romantic way.

All the while a new baker comes to town and enters competition with Emily and sparks start to fly. It awoke the part of me that deeply desires to love and be loved. When the two were baking together and having a great time I wondered what I’d be like to have that one day with the person I spend my life with. I’m barely decent at baking so It’d be messier and more about figuring it out together, but I love that idea more.

Watching this I just felt that something in me light up that loves to love and deeply wants to spend my life having fun and learning and growing together with someone I love and who feels every ounce of that love for me as well. Something gentle and soft and kind. Something peaceful. Something I’ve tasted before and fell way too short.

Love is at the beating heart of what Christmas is to me. Love for your family. For your neighbors. Love for the people you work with. Love for those you like and those you don’t. And yes romantic love too.

This romantic little story does what every good Christmas film should, it inspires hope. It gives you all the warm and fuzzy feelings about what could and will be. One day, it’s fun to think about, what a Christmas would look like beside the guy that holds my heart. So I hold hope in my heart for that one day and all the one days that will come after.

What I also loved about the film was the mischievous actions from some of the characters that added a little spice and hilarity to the film. Some people live to cause chaos and having those chinks in the film was a lot of fun.

Watching: Noelle

The first Christmas movie I’ve decided to watch to kick off the beautiful season is Noelle. Due to a lovely friend and coworker being amazing I got the chance to watch this film off Disney plus and I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it for all that it was.

The story sets around Noelle and her brother Nick Kringle. Nick from a small child has been raised to become Santa. Noelle was raised with no expectation. She always wanted to do something important, but she was never taken seriously.

Santa passes away and it is time for Nick to fill Santa’s shoes, but he is terrible at it. Noelle tells him to take a break and so he does, but then he doesn’t want to come back.

Noelle then goes on a journey meeting a man named Jake and his son Alex. Together they set off to find her brother.

Overall, the movie is adorable. Obviously kid friendly. But, surprisingly not at all romance based which is unusual for Christmas films like this one, but I’m kinda happy that it isn’t.

Of course my favorite character was the little reindeer Snowball. I love adorable baby animals in films. They add a layer of cute that I cannot resist.

The movie is as it presents itself to be. It is un-complicated and there isn’t anything twisty about it. It has some very adorable moments as well as some good bits of humor. All in all, a great film for the season!

My Christmas Playlist!

I love music and dancing. I love listening to good music almost more then anything else. I listen to so much music and so much variety of music that most turn up a brow when they know I’m that small percentage of people who max out the Spotify limit and makes a ginormous playlist instead of liking songs, because it doesn’t let me like them anymore because I’ve liked way too many.

This year I shared with all of you my Halloween playlist and since then that playlist has grown as my playlists always do, but that just means I have new music to share for next year!

However, this post is about my Christmas playlist! I have some classics, some new songs, but all the joyful songs of the season! I made sure that my Christmas playlist was as positive as possible. Music that makes me feel alive. Music that makes me dance and sing and feel joy. I love that having played this at my work that my coworkers and I have had some good laughs dancing along to the music and that it’s been such a good time.

This Christmas is going to be one of my favorites. I can feel that deep in my heart. It’s started off with a bang and I’m excited for all that the season will bring.

On to the music!!

Books of Christmas Future 2018

The future is an enigma. No one can know truly what is to come or what will be. One can only let the universe know their hopes and see if the universe grants what they wish to be.

Maybe the future will grant me a story of lives past

Or maybe the future will be where it’s at

A continuation of a story I started in the past

Or something totally new to keep the imagination something that lasts

Maybe a story to spark love in my heart

Or something where demons live supreme

Maybe something with a bit of tongue in cheek

Or something written a bit uniquely

Maybe something to spark some fear

But you can’t be without a bit of tears

What ever Christmas future brings

I know I’m going to love the adventure they bring

Thanks for reading! Let’s all hope for some great stories in our Christmas futures! Let me know your thoughts down in the comments below.

Books of Christmas Present

This year, I did not receive any books for Christmas. It was a very clothing heavy Christmas this year. Which makes sense due to my rapid weight loss journey over the course of the past months.

In a way it gave me a chance to appreciate the books on my shelves that I own and haven’t yet read.

Truly the Books of the Present are all the amazing books on my shelves and in my kindle library that are just waiting to tell me their stories. I can’t wait to dive into them.

This post almost turned into something sad. Not because it is absent of books or anything. But because, Christmas this year has not felt like Christmas for me. I notice in my own family that everyone looked like they were going through the motions this year and it felt like the spirit of the season was completely absent.

However, it’s good to remember that no matter what we are still family and that we love each other. Even when times get hard. That because of the love we feel for each other we can get through any obstacle.

If anything, this Christmas is teaching me to try and take action to bring joy into my life. Instead of letting things remain in a negative state. Because I don’t like feeling down during the holiday season. This Christmas is as it is, but next Christmas will be here before I know it and I want to enjoy it for what it should be.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day. I hope it was filled with joy and good interactions with family, friends, and loved ones.

Books of Christmas Past 2018

I hope everyone is having a fun wonderful and safe Christmas Eve. I hope everyone is spending some quality time with family, friends, and loved ones this holiday season. As is tradition on my blog I every Christmas Eve, day, and day after I create Books of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Last year I was fortunate enough to receive some really great books for the holidays!

Without further ado here are my books of Christmas Past 2018:

The Girl Who Could Silence the Wind

I have yet to read this beautiful looking book. It was a giveaway surprise I received shortly before Christmas last year and I’m sad that I hadn’t gotten to read it just yet. It’s magical realism which is a genre that always captures my attention and I know that when I finally get to it I’m going to adore this book!

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco

Last year I received this incredible gem of a book and I adored reading it. The Stalking Jack the Ripper series is one of my absolute all time favorites and I’m so excited to one day pick up Escaping Houdini!!! I could scream my love of this book for ages and never stop. If your interested here is the link to my review.

Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

I’ve been meaning to read this book for a long while now, but this and many other books have been put to the side for a while due to the events of recent times. I’m hoping I get into reading it in the new year!

Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

I can’t believe I got this book only last year. I loved reading it, but I didn’t realize that it was going to mean as much to me as it does now. This book is special. In a much deeper way to me then it was when I first read it. I’m going to make it a point to re-read this and Shadowsong in the new year. If you are interested in all my thoughts and feelings here’s a link to my review! This book was one of my favorites of 2017, but now I’m willing to say its one of my all time favorites ever.

The First Four Books In the Throne of Glass Series

This book was the start of a really fantastic series for me. I enjoyed reading immensely. Especially the books after ‘Throne of Glass’.

Again such a great series. It just gets better as it goes on.

Thanks for reading!!! Merry Christmas Eve to all of you! I hope you have amazing times with your family, friends, and loved ones!

Going to Be Better in December

This month I don’t really have any plans in particular. I’m just going to focus on getting my mind and body into a healthier state and doing things I love to do. It’s Christmas Season! I have a lot of things to look forward to.

One thing that is weird for me is that in two weeks time I will be 20 years old. This feels strange because it’s just a reminder that I’ve barely started my life. I’m not even if legal drinking age yet, I have so much future to live for.

I think this month I’m going to remember who I am. A girl who loves books and cares deeply about her family. Someone who dreams of being a writer and fears writing for very little real reason. Who loves music and dancing and having fun. Who loves Christmas. Who cares about people. I’m not going to let what has gone and past affect me anymore. I need to move forward. I will move forward. I will be a better me.

I have a lot to be grateful for. I have books yet to be read. I have a roof over my head. My Dad is still here. I have stories to be written. I just need to change my perspective.

So this December I’m going to dedicate myself to heal. To give myself a chance. To enjoy life again. To smile and mean it.

Thanks for reading! I’m sorry about all the life posts recently. I haven’t been reading as much recently and with everything that’s been going on, I’ve been struggling to get back on track. Things should be back on track very soon!

-Till next time!

Books of Christmas Future 2017

You never know what the world will bring. You can only hope that it will be something wonderful. The future is unforeseeable, but here are my hopes on how it will be.

Filled with books of sweet romance

With fantasy so my heart can dance

Also some books to make me cry

And others to bring me back to life

Maybe a dip into something magically real

Or something spooky to make my heart still

Maybe a long awaited series would be the biggest surprise

Or a copy of a book that I loved with every bit of my being

Maybe a classic to get to the roots of English

Or something thrilling to keep the mystery awake

Hopefully there will be some diversity

In race

Religion

Sexuality

& Identity

Hopefully I can continue some series

But in the end I will be happy with whatever adventures await me:

Thanks for reading! What books are looking forward to in the new year?

Books of Christmas Present 2017

Christmas is finally here!!!! I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday’s that are filled with love and joy and all around good times.

This Christmas I feel extremely fortunate for all the gifts that I have received and I look forward to enjoying each and every one of them.

However, there are some really special books that I have received this year that I want to share with all of you and also to have a special memory of the lovely day.

Here are my Books of Christmas Present for 2017!

The Girl Who Could Silence the Wind by Meg Medina

Sonia’s entire village believes she has a gift, but it’s only in leaving home that she finds out who she truly is. A compelling tale from a rich new voice in young adult fiction.

Sixteen-year-old Sonia Ocampo was born on the night of the worst storm Tres Montes had ever seen. And when the winds mercifully stopped, an unshakable belief in the girl’s protective powers began. All her life, Sonia has been asked to pray for sick mothers or missing sons, as worried parents and friends press silver milagros in her hands. Sonia knows she has no special powers, but how can she disappoint those who look to her for solace?

Still, her conscience is heavy, so when she gets a chance to travel to the city and work in the home of a wealthy woman, she seizes it. At first, Sonia feels freedom in being treated like all the other girls. But when news arrives that her beloved brother has disappeared while looking for work, she learns to her sorrow that she can never truly leave the past or her family behind.

With deeply realized characters, a keen sense of place, a hint of magical realism, and a flush of young romance, Meg Medina tells the tale of a strongwilled, warmhearted girl who dares to face life’s harsh truths as she finds her real power.

This book was a lovely giveaway surprise that arrived a few days before Christmas without me knowing. I consider this my gift from Santa that came just a tad bit early. I’m excited about this book because it is an own voices Latin-American magical realism novel with some hints of romance that sound like something that makes a very light and fun read. Plus the cover is absolutely gorgeous!

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco

In this New York Times bestselling sequel to Kerri Maniscalco’s haunting #1 debut Stalking Jack the Ripper, bizarre murders are discovered in the castle of Prince Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula. Could it be a copycat killer…or has the depraved prince been brought back to life?

This book came into my possession and I immediately began to read it. Stalking Jack the Ripper was on of my favorite books of this year and I am sure Book 2 is going to be another favorite. I missed my OTP so much and I was just happy to be able to dive into this world again. I’m hoping for some adventure and romance and some serious serial killer finding action!

Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

What if you could spend one last day with someone you lost?

One day Carver Briggs had it all—three best friends, a supportive family, and a reputation as a talented writer at his high school, Nashville Academy for the Arts.

The next day he lost it all when he sent a simple text to his friend Mars, right before Mars, Eli, and Blake were killed in a car crash.

Now Carver can’t stop blaming himself for the accident, and he’s not the only one. Eli’s twin sister is trying to freeze him out of school with her death-ray stare. And Mars’s father, a powerful judge, is pressuring the district attorney to open a criminal investigation into Carver’s actions.

Luckily, Carver has some unexpected allies: Eli’s girlfriend, the only person to stand by him at school; Dr. Mendez, his new therapist; and Blake’s grandmother, who asks Carver to spend a Goodbye Day with her to share their memories and say a proper goodbye to his friend.

Soon the other families are asking for a Goodbye Day with Carver, but he’s unsure of their motives. Will they all be able to make peace with their losses, or will these Goodbye Days bring Carver one step closer to a complete breakdown or—even worse—prison?

This book was the biggest surprise I received among the books I got this Christmas. However, it was a very happy surprise as I have heard nothing but praise from everyone about this book. One of these days when I am in for an emotional rollercoaster I know I need to pick this one up.

Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

Beware the goblin men and the wares they sell.

All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favor of more practical concerns.

But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts.

Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.

The labyrinth was one of those classic amazing movies that made me feel alive when I was young. So when I heard that Wintersong was coming out I knew I had to read it. What makes me the most excited for it is that it seems that the romance will be real in a way that it wasn’t in The Labyrinth and that’s enough to make me want to scream Hallelujah! This is one book I know I’m going to be reading very soon cause I don’t think I could resist it!!!

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

“Nothing is a coincidence. Everything has a purpose. You were meant to come to this castle, just as you were meant to be an assassin.”

When magic has gone from the world, and a vicious king rules from his throne of glass, an assassin comes to the castle. She does not come to kill, but to win her freedom. If she can defeat twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition to find the greatest assassin in the land, she will become the King’s Champion and be released from prison.

Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her.

And a princess from a foreign land will become the one thing Celaena never thought she’d have again: a friend.

But something evil dwells in the castle—and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying, horribly, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival—and a desperate quest to root out the source of the evil before it destroys her world.

FINALLY! I have this book finally! I have been wanting to read this series for FAR too long and finally I have Throne of Glass in my hands! I have been avoiding reviews and spoilers for what feels like years in order for me to experience everything that is Throne of Glass without anyone else to taint my judgement. (I could not avoid all the screaming fangirling that has followed this series for so long although I know there has been a decline in fangirling in recent times as well as some problems? With some of the later books. Others saying that ACOTAR is infinitely better but I have always wanted to read this so I’m excited!!!) I don’t know what is in store for me with this series, but I am so excited to finally be reading it!!!

Also, I also happed to get Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, and Queen of Shadows as well and I couldn’t be happier about it!!!

Another thing I want to say is how much I’m in love with the TOG series covers. They are full of a badass quality that makes me feel emboldened as a women. It honestly makes me want to go train with some weapons and then wear some awesome dresses and armor while I’m at it. That feeling is one of the biggest reasons I feel like I would love this series. Regardless of what happens I know that just by looking at these covers I can feel like a confident kick butt woman who is ready to take on the world. I’m just so excited to start this series!

That’s all for Christmas Present of 2017! Check out yesterday’s post books of Christmas Past to see what I got last year and stay tooned for tomorrow’s post taking a look at some books for Christmas future!

Thanks for reading! Let me know what books and items you got this Christmas. What was a happy moment you shared this lovely Christmas Day?

-Till next time!
