My Favorite Christmas Films

Every year I watch many Christmas films and a lot of the times it is throughout the year because my mom adores them, but there are a few that have become my favorites and I’d love to share them with all of you!

The Christmas Chronicles

At the time of writing this I am re-watching this film. It’s a fun, rocking-Christmas type of film. It’s fun with adorable little elves and the coolest Santa ever! A second film is coming out next year and I can’t wait to watch it!

Every Home Alone

I have watched every home alone over and over and over. I don’t know why, but I adore these films. They make me laugh every time and I couldn’t stop watching them as a kid. This is the exact collection I had as a kid and I remember binging them all the time on my own again and again.

The Christmas Calendar

I watched this for the first time a few days ago and did a whole post on it, but I really do find this film adorable. It’s super romantic and it lights up my heart in such a pure way.

Christmas With the Kranks

This movie is so laugh out loud funny. It’s a good jolly competition and that makes a wonderful film to me.

The Santa Clause Films

This is classic Christmas for me. This is what gave me the original idea of what Santa was like and I couldn’t stop watching as a kid.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

This movie is so wholesome. I know it’s about someone hating Christmas, but in my heart I believe that the Grinches heart was always big, because sometimes caring too much can leave you feeling cold even though it’s really just fear of things that could go wrong that don’t define what will actually be.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Speaking of classic Christmas, nothing is more classic to me is The Nightmare Before Christmas. I’ve come to love it more and more over the years and now it doesn’t really feel like Christmas till I watch it.

Creating the Ultimate Halloween Playlist

I woke up this morning feeling so good.. Recently, I’ve woken up like that a LOT and it feels fantastic. Honestly, right before October I was in a huge Christmas mood and I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to fully get into the spirit of October, but I needn’t have worried. I am in such a horror mood right now and I am loving it!

Honestly, there is one song in particular that inspired me to make a Halloween playlist for the first time.. it’s called ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ by Avenged Sevenfold. Anyone who knows me in real life would ask me what happened to me that I ended up listening to bands like this and started really enjoying them. I mean, EDM will always have my heart, but it really does feel good to rock out to some of these songs. Anyway, when I heard ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ for the first time I smiled from ear to ear, because it was perfect for Halloween. Absolutely perfect! I highly recommend giving it a listen..unless you don’t like songs that have strong language then don’t give it a listen, but you have to try and listen to those first few notes and tell me that it’s not pure halloween music.

Anyway, after that I had to make a playlist of songs that made me feel like I was in a Halloween experience. Songs that brought memories of going to freight night and dressing up as a kid trick or treating. Songs that brought to the surface what Halloween represents to me. A dark, celebratory time of facing fear in the eye without blinking. Of letting ourselves accept fear as a part of our lives that we shouldn’t turn away from. A time where we are a little bit braver. A time where there is a very real twisted magic in the air. Where our darkest imaginings walk free. A time where we are open with ourselves and each other that yes we are terrified. We are all terrified of something. Yet, we can express that terror and laugh about it and enjoy times with people we care about.

So this playlist is something special to me. I don’t know if I’ll be ‘done’ with it.. I don’t think I’m ever ‘done’ with a playlist. But, I will send you all the link to it here!

It has some classic Halloween songs. You can’t have a Halloween playlist without Thriller or This is Halloween. If you have any recommendations of some of your favorite Halloween jams to add to it let me know. Listening to this playlist makes me feel so happy. It feels so celebratory of a part of me that doesn’t come to life, but a very short time of a year. No matter what I want to enjoy this time. So I will. Because life.. life is far to short to let go of what’s good when it’s found.

Thanks for reading! I hope you all enjoy the playlist. I hope that it reminds you all of the joy of Halloween. A time where belief and reality have a very thin line. Let me know your thoughts down in the comments below! Have a wonderful spooky month ahead!

My Top 10 Favorite Horror Movies

I’m in a really fantastic mood right now. It’s spooky month and I am so ready to live my best life watching some spooky movies and play throughs of horror games. One thing that surprises a lot of people when I mention this after getting to know me is that I ADORE horror movies and the whole genre in general. I love spooky shows, and spooky books, and going to six flags horror nights (when I have the chance). It’s something that I live for.

So I am so excited to share with you all my top 10 horror movies in no particular order:

1. Mama

So this is my favorite horror movie. I know I said no particular order, but I had to mention Mama first. I love it for so many reasons. It’s a family movie. I don’t mean it’s not scary.. I just mean it’s about family. Two sisters being raised by a ghost found in the woods to be taken in by a family and followed closely by their ghost mom. This makes it sound weirder then it is. Actually this movie made me cry the first few times I watched it. It’s so good!

2. Get Out

This movie deserves all the applause it gets. It touches on so many interesting elements. At first I had no clue where it was going, but when all becomes revealed at the end.. it has one amazing ending. Plus, it has some elements of humor in it and in a horror I really appreciate that. It was tastefully done.

3. The Conjuring 2

Of the movies in The Conjuring Universe this is the one that will be playing in my house almost twice a month. It’s such a fun movie. The romantic elements are really sweet and then the actual story is interesting. I really love this one.

4. Veronica

This is a horror movie completely in Spanish. I could not find subtitles for it so it made me feel really good about my Spanish skill to realize I didn’t really need it. I love the visuals in this movie. I also love just in general how creepy and awesome it was. It was a horror movie done right. I really enjoyed it.

5. It

I honestly think they did a really good job with this adaption of ‘it’ it actually made me laugh? I love when horror makes me laugh. All I can think of is the image in my head of Pennywise and how awful it is. Very well done.

6. A Quiet Place

They did an AMAZING job with this movie. The way they played with sound was awesome. It actually impacted me emotionally. It made me think of so many things about what living in a world like that would be like. Plus it is another family movie.. and they dynamics of it were just so well done.

7. Carrie

This movie is a classic and most of the time I don’t like older films, but this movie was genuinely really good. It genuinely made me feel something and I cared about the characters. There is no other version of this I can accept out there.

8. The Lost Boys

Another classic.. for me I love this because I can hear the music in my head just by looking at the poster. It’s a really great movie. I just have so many memories of watching over and over with my sister and this one has to make this list.

9. The Amityville Horror

I’m showing the (2005) version with Ryan Reynolds because I love Ryan, but honestly.. most versions work here.. I’ve watched a ton of Amityville movies.. some terrible.. some great. I can’t really recall them all they all bleed together, but I can honestly say that the story of this house is one that will haunt the world into eternity.. this list wouldn’t be right without it.

10. The Ring (all of them)

I love the ring movies.. I love the imagery of something crawling out of your television screen and into real life. I love the video that started it all. I love all of it. It’s not the best in the world, but for me.. I really love it as a whole.

Honorable mentions:

11. The Grudge

I have to mention this movie.. it’s one of the first I actually forced myself to watch and I was hiding behind my hands disturbed. I watched it with my uncle and my cousins.. it’s one of the few memories I have with my uncle so it is still special to me.

12. It Follows

I finally watched this.. maybe two weeks ago. But an old friend of mine asked me and everyone else he knew to watch it (almost 2 years ago) and the entire time all I could think that the movie was so him in every way. It’s a good movie.. not my style, but 12 was always both of our favorite numbers and in a way.. watching this and talking about this feels like commemorating him and the impression he made on my life in a nice way. It just feels right.

13. The Boy

The Boy.. and Annabelle.. all the creepy dolls of horror.. I adore those movies. I have to mention them. The Boy was really well done and it’s on par with Annabelle as my favorites of this genre of horror.

Thanks for reading! What made me really happy was to realize that even though this list is long.. there are so many other movies I could have mentioned. I feel really good about myself.. like I am the horror junkie I proclaim myself to be. This puts me in the best mood ever for Halloween. I feel proud.

Silence Breaking: A Review

Silence Breaking by Robert Their

My Rating: 5 Stars!

Cover Rating: 4/10 Stars. Of all the covers in this series I like this one the least. It’s the one that feels the least seamless and while it fits I lean towards not really liking it.

Publisher: Robert himself!

Received: wattpad read

*is the 4th book of a series*

Synopsis:

Family – the most important thing in the world, right? If it’s your own, maybe. But if it’s the family of the incredibly powerful, incredibly alluring businessman with whom you’ve been conducting a secret office affair, and they don’t yet know about the affair, things are a little bit different.

Life is about to get real for Lilly Linton. All those stolen moments behind closed doors, those secret kisses and whispered words are about to catch up with her. As she and her boss, business-magnate Rikkard Ambrose travel north to his parents’ palatial estate, she is about to discover: does she have the strength to step out of the shadows and change her fate forever?

Opening Sentence: ‘For the last time, Sir: when are we going?’

Musings:

How can I put into words my feelings for a novel that holds my absolute favorite characters ever? I could live in their world forever. My life will always be better for having enjoyed Mr. Ambrose and Lily Linton’s adventures. The day that their adventures come to an end will be a very sad day. I’m so happy that my favorite character have began to really move forward in this book and I can’t wait to see what they get up to in the next.

What I love:

Mr. Ambrose. If there is any character I have ever fallen head over heels for it’s Mr. Ambrose. While it might have never really worked or between me and him I am glad he has Lily. In Silence Breaking we see a softer more passionate side to the very cold man and I was living for it!

Lillian. Lily is a feminist, sarcastic, no holds barred, adventurous, hilarious, and unique character. I have always loved reading through her eyes and there isn’t a chapter that goes by where she doesn’t say or do something that makes me smile. I really want her to be happy. To live a long life with her love married or not.

Karim. A hunking huge warrior that is terrified of Lillian or more terrified of Lillian taking off her clothing (long story). He is someone that I wish I could meet only to tease, because getting under the skin of someone so strong and balking would give me a lot of satisfaction and joy. The Sabre carrying man will always be a quiet character I forever hold in my heart.

The sister. Rikkard Ambrose’s sister is a girl after my own heart. She becomes a friend and confidant to Lillian and her never ending support for all of Lily’s romantic endeavors with Ambrose makes me happy.

This book just makes me happy. If there was ever a series that just makes me feel good it’s this one. It’s comedic and romantic and full of characters and adventures that bring me joy. I smile at every update and I will always hold these stories dear.

Final thoughts:

If you haven’t yet… read Storm and Silence. Start this series. Relish it. I can’t recommend a series more whole heartily then this one. I want to share my happiness with as many of you as I can. This has grown to be my favorite ongoing series and probably favorite series ever. I will never regret the day I first decided to read Storm and Silence. I can’t recommend it enough.

About the Author:

Sir Rob at a Window of the Castle of Rechberg

Robert Thier is a German historian, lover of old books and award-winning writer, whose novels and stories encompass the historical, satirical, and fantastical. For the way he manages to make the past come alive, as if he himself lived as a medieval knight, his inventive fans have given him the nickname “Sir Rob.” All of his stories are characterized by his very own brand of humor that has gained him a diverse readership ranging from teenagers to retired grandmothers.

For Robert, becoming a writer followed naturally from his interest in history. “In Germany,” he says, “we use the same word for story and history. And I’ve always loved the one as much as the other. Becoming a storyteller, a writer, is what I’ve always wanted.”
Besides writing and researching in dusty old archives, on the lookout for a mystery to put into his next story, Robert enjoys classical music and long walks in the country. The helmet you see in the picture he does not wear because he is a cycling enthusiast, but to protect his literary skull in which a bone has been missing from birth. Robert lives in the south of Germany in a small village between the three Emperor Mountains.

My Top 5: Favorite Webtoons

Webtoons hold a special place in my heart as they are stories and comics written and drawn by talented storytellers and artists that are completely free to read. There are Webtoons that I automatically shoot to read with joy the second I see them updated and these 5 are the main ones.

In no particular Order:

I Love Yoo

This story is so sad yet so wonderful and engaging I can’t help but feel excited when it updates. It has made me cry and made me smile and I know who I ship although I am highly uncertain that it will ever come to pass.

World Poetry Day: My Love for Annabel Lee

Today is a day of celebration, lyrical thought, and appreciation for one of my favorite things in the world POETRY!

However I couldn’t celebrate this day without sharing my favorite poem from the master himself Edgar Allen Poe.

Annabel Lee

By Edgar Allan Poe

It was many and many a year ago,

In a kingdom by the sea,

That a maiden there lived whom you may know

   By the name of Annabel Lee;

And this maiden she lived with no other thought

Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,

In this kingdom by the sea,

But we loved with a love that was more than love—

   I and my Annabel Lee—

With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven

   Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,

In this kingdom by the sea,

A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling

   My beautiful Annabel Lee;

So that her highborn kinsmen came

And bore her away from me,

To shut her up in a sepulchre

In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,

   Went envying her and me—

Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know,

In this kingdom by the sea)

That the wind came out of the cloud by night,

Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love

Of those who were older than we—

Of many far wiser than we—

And neither the angels in Heaven above

Nor the demons down under the sea

Can ever dissever my soul from the soul

   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams

   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes

   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side

Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,

In her sepulchre there by the sea—

In her tomb by the sounding sea.
I LOVE this poem! This is the type of passion and love that I can celebrate. A love so powerful and so pure that even in death he stays with her. I love the youth of it and the passion of it and the beauty of its repetive yet slowly changing nature. I love the story. The jealous angels that took her away from him to have her for themselves. The melancholy and dark beauty of everything that surrounds this poem and how it makes my heart race just thinking about it.

Poetry always gets to me, but nothing has made me stop in my tracks and made me feel as emotional as this poem has and it puts a smile on my face.

As much as I wanted to write a poem for World Poetry Day I feel like it would do an injustice to the greatness of the poem I love so much, from a man who is an incredible inspiration to me. I’d call Poe a dark romantic. There is something so honest about his pieces and one day I will own a book of his complete works.

Gosh I need to read more Poe!

Anyway, thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post and read Annabel Lee many many times (it is required reading). Happy World Poetry Day! Let me know what some of your favorite poems are! I’d love to read them!

Loveliest Books of 2016

2016 was a year of discovery for me. It was a year of a lot of hope and a year that pushed me to want to be a better person to the people around me. Many of the books I read last year helped me to discover and want to keep that mindset.

Here are the loviest books I read in 2016:

Impulse by Ellen Hopkins

Impulse was the first book I read in 2016 and it had one of the biggest impacts and messages in my life because it made me realize that the mindset that the characters had in this novel was a mindset I no longer have nor wanted to have. It made me realize that the unflinching reality of how we often think in times of darkness might not always be the reality we hold for the rest of our lives. It helped me see that what I want to do with my writing, with every action that I take, is to give hope and spread awareness. To do good.
The Night Circus by

The Night Circus was one of those books that feels like you are watching a beautiful show play out before your eyes. The beauty, the magic, the sights and smells were all so atmospherically wonderful. This book ignited my need to read more books set around a circus and is the inspiration for my personal exploration of the magic of being in the audience of a great show.

Graceling  by Kristin Cashore

This book made the feminist inside me so happy. Katsa can and does everything for herself with a badass flare only she possesses. Writing about her now makes me want to dive right back in and read her story all over again. I loved this but book so much.

Fire by Kristin Cashore

A companion to Graceling that made me equally as happy is Fire. Fire the girl with the power to control minds. The girl whose beauty is so captivating that it traps you if you let it. The journey and the separate world next door within this book made me smile. Another strong female that will do anything she can to protect those she loves.

The Giver by Lois Lowry

The Giver is one of my favorite books of all time. I have read and reread this book to the point of near memorization. This book may be short, but to me the message is powerful. It was the first book to make me dream of doing something to create a better world and it was the first book that made me realize that we need all of life’s experiences good and bad to shape who we are.

The Weight of Zero by Karen Fortunati

The prose in this book is beautiful, yet at times heartbreaking, but also hopeful. A unique and real way to look at bipolar disorder. I feel like I needed and was meant to read this book.

A Tragic Kind of Wonderful by Eric Lindstrom

This cover perfectly defines everything that this book is. Another book on bipolar disorder, it sheds light on the mental-illness that helped me feel like I could really understand it better. It helped me think of the illness as that an illness and not something that takes away from the human being, and that’s the most important part.

A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly

This book quickly became one of my favorite books of all time. I can’t describe well enough how much this book affected me. It helped me to really think about why I loved to read and it made me fall in love with books more deeply than I thought I could. All book lovers should read this book. All people could read this book. The dreams of a dreamer are outlined in each line in this books pages.

The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett by Chelsea Sedoti

This book was the second to last book I read in 2016 and I was so glad I was able to read it. I have never related more to a character than I have to Hawthorne. Her dream for adventure and knack for creating stories where there are none are parts of my own mind. Her loneliness is something I have felt for a lot of my life. Her battle to keep her beliefs is a battle I face. This book made me so many things, but the number one was love. Definitely one I will be revisiting sometime in the future.
Thank you for reading! What were your favorite reads of 2016? What books have made an impact on your life? Let me know in the comments.
