My Christmas Playlist!

I love music and dancing. I love listening to good music almost more then anything else. I listen to so much music and so much variety of music that most turn up a brow when they know I’m that small percentage of people who max out the Spotify limit and makes a ginormous playlist instead of liking songs, because it doesn’t let me like them anymore because I’ve liked way too many.

This year I shared with all of you my Halloween playlist and since then that playlist has grown as my playlists always do, but that just means I have new music to share for next year!

However, this post is about my Christmas playlist! I have some classics, some new songs, but all the joyful songs of the season! I made sure that my Christmas playlist was as positive as possible. Music that makes me feel alive. Music that makes me dance and sing and feel joy. I love that having played this at my work that my coworkers and I have had some good laughs dancing along to the music and that it’s been such a good time.

This Christmas is going to be one of my favorites. I can feel that deep in my heart. It’s started off with a bang and I’m excited for all that the season will bring.

On to the music!!

Halloween: A Playlist

I adore Halloween! It’s one of my two favorite holidays and it lifts up my spirits every year it comes around. Last year I decided to make a Spotify playlist inspired by A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold. This song still leaves me speechless. Since then I have considered this song to be a masterpiece. It’s 8 mins long and it tells a full story. The music rises and falls and fills you with different energy as it goes on. It gets angry and romantic and dark all wrapped into one. It’s a Halloween story through and through and I will love this song till my last days on earth.

I am still adding to the playlist that you will soon see. It is everything that reminds me of the season. Things that are dark, creepy, and freaky. The things that play tricks on you. The things that showcase the shadows of the human mind. All of this is what I showcase in this music. From classic Halloween to Edm to Heavy Metal to Disney. All the parts of me are in this playlist. I love it dearly.

Thank you all for reading! Let me know your thoughts down in the comments below! I adore this season and I hope you all enjoyed my playlist!

Avicii: This is my Tribute

On April 20th, 2018, the world one of the biggest names in edm. Personally, I felt like I lost someone whose sound would forever be imprinted on my heart. Avicii was one of those artists that I could hear a brand new song and know it was his work without anyone telling me the artist. In truth, I thought I’d have years and years of future music of his to listen to, but that sadly wasn’t in the cards.

This superstar of an artist gave me songs that lit up my heart and gave me hope. Songs that celebrated life and living out ones greatest dreams and it inspired me to dance in the moment again and again. In my heart Avicii’s light will never die. People like Avicii…people who hide their demons away and give so much of their light for all the world to enjoy are very special people.

I don’t want to taint this post with the details of his death. I’m sure, a year later, the majority of you know what happened. No this post is a celebration. Avicii’s music will continue to inspire joy and dance in my life for the rest of my life.

Losing this powerhouse of a musician, one of the first to be a part of what sparked my love of music in the first place was like losing a friend. Someone who was always with you raising you up. Someone that showed you to turn to the light when the dark felt like too much to handle. That’s who Avicii was and still is in my life.

These are some of my all time favorite Avicii songs:

  • The Days/The Nights: both of these give me a deep feeling of hope for different reasons
  • Hey Brother: a song that gives me a feeling of nostalgia
  • Levels: a song that I will always dance to no matter what
  • Waiting for love: a song I just love to sing along to
  • Wake me up: another one of his supremely hopeful songs
  • SOS- just an overall beautiful song
  • Silhouettes- a song that talks about the brightness of the future and not letting the past ever hold you back. A song of how each and every moment is one that transforms you.
  • Broken Arrows- Another very hopeful and uplifting song that brings a smile on my face
  • Addicted to you- I love the story of this song. Falling in love once more and giving into it after lost love. I think there is something pretty brave about that.
  • Lonely Together- I feel like this song about friends coming together when they are feeling a little lonely and just enjoying life together.

For this tribute I sung ‘The Nights’ to no music. Singing is my way of celebrating and letting go of emotion and I’ve sung along to avicii’s songs countless times. The audio isn’t perfect, it’s kinda muddled and soft, but this is something I’ve wanted to do since the time of his passing.

So here it is:

https://youtu.be/ZKfITN-da9w

To Avicii, you moved the lives of millions. You shared stories of living life to the fullest and making all your dreams come true. You may have gone away into another life, but what you accomplished on this earth will always have a positive impact. Rest well my friend. You are a shining star gone way too soon.

Thank you all for reading! I hope you all enjoyed this post. I meant to have this up on the 20th, but I got the dates all mixed up and I realized I had it wrong. Avicii is a person that has a big place in my heart. Truly someone who has gone way too soon.

Watching Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2 : A New Halloween Favorite!

Jeepers Creepers. A name that doesn’t take itself seriously. Fitting for a monster that doesn’t take itself seriously. Yet, somehow, it was incredibly terrifying.

Jeepers Creepers:

The first movie was AMAZING! I loved it. It was funny. It was terrifying. Yet I found myself laughing at the most inappropriate of times. The monster is unlike any other I’ve ever seen created and he disturbed me. At first, I thought it was just this crazy car coming after this idiot of a brother and his sister who had a much better head on her shoulders. God, the decisions they made.. especially the brother.. made me roll my eyes. I was yelling at the tv and it was so much fun to talk with my sister watching and pick apart the things that they were doing. I don’t know what to call the monster in this film, but my God did it twist at my insides.

Just look how they designed this guy! Super creepy. I loved how he starts off looking like a man and slowly devolves to look more and more gross. The idea of him this creature that comes to feed for 23 days every 23rd spring. In some ways he’s part scarecrow part Dracula part demon. The way he picks his victims is the most spin-chilling of all. Sniffing them out to see if he wants to eat and have their parts for his own.

I loved the way they used the song in the first film. It is such a fun and cute song. Yet, I will never be able to hear that song the same again. It is now the definition of what halloween is to me. Deception, horror, fear, glamour, and the seduction to do the things that live in your darkest nightmares.

The first movie really pulls you in. It takes a while for things to fall into place and yet the pacing of it and how it makes you feel afraid is very simple. That’s something I really appreciate.

Jeepers Creepers 2:

The sequel was not as good as the first one, but it still had some of the elements that made the first movie great. The sequel tried to get more exciting about the way it showcased the horror elements. I still really enjoyed it.

This time it follows this huge group of high school kids on their way somewhere on the bus. They undergo the terror that is the Jeepers Creepers monster and things do not go well for them. There was still the funny elements. This monster plays with his food. He is one of the most sadistic and sick monsters I’ve ever seen on screen.

The one thing I enjoy about both movies is that the girls always have a much better handle on the situation then the boys. Honestly, my favorite scenes are the ones where a girl attacks that monster and it is so badass. In a world where girls are just beauty props in horror movies in this movie they are heroes and I really adore it.

I think the few things that were missing in the second movie that the first had really well was first of all the song, the second movie doesn’t play the song, the second thing being a story arc that isn’t just one main story, the third the sense of mystery that the first movie has.

However, there were some really great one-liners and enjoyable scenes in the second movie that made it stand on its own. It was fun to watch and I think that’s the most important thing.

In General:

The Jeepers Creepers movies are now a new horror favorite for me. They aren’t the poster child’s of amazing film, but they are really fun and genuinely scary to watch. There is a third movie that came out in 2017 that I hope to watch at some point. The original’s came out in 2001 and 2003. I expect that the way they decide to tell the third installment will have evolved quite a bit so I’m excited to see what they do with it. I love it when horror can make me equally afraid and grossed out, but also makes me laugh. These films are really fantastic to watch for general horror lovers and Halloween film searchers alike. This was an overall great experience.

I can’t end this with out leaving you all with the song that made the first film great:

Creating the Ultimate Halloween Playlist

I woke up this morning feeling so good.. Recently, I’ve woken up like that a LOT and it feels fantastic. Honestly, right before October I was in a huge Christmas mood and I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to fully get into the spirit of October, but I needn’t have worried. I am in such a horror mood right now and I am loving it!

Honestly, there is one song in particular that inspired me to make a Halloween playlist for the first time.. it’s called ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ by Avenged Sevenfold. Anyone who knows me in real life would ask me what happened to me that I ended up listening to bands like this and started really enjoying them. I mean, EDM will always have my heart, but it really does feel good to rock out to some of these songs. Anyway, when I heard ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ for the first time I smiled from ear to ear, because it was perfect for Halloween. Absolutely perfect! I highly recommend giving it a listen..unless you don’t like songs that have strong language then don’t give it a listen, but you have to try and listen to those first few notes and tell me that it’s not pure halloween music.

Anyway, after that I had to make a playlist of songs that made me feel like I was in a Halloween experience. Songs that brought memories of going to freight night and dressing up as a kid trick or treating. Songs that brought to the surface what Halloween represents to me. A dark, celebratory time of facing fear in the eye without blinking. Of letting ourselves accept fear as a part of our lives that we shouldn’t turn away from. A time where we are a little bit braver. A time where there is a very real twisted magic in the air. Where our darkest imaginings walk free. A time where we are open with ourselves and each other that yes we are terrified. We are all terrified of something. Yet, we can express that terror and laugh about it and enjoy times with people we care about.

So this playlist is something special to me. I don’t know if I’ll be ‘done’ with it.. I don’t think I’m ever ‘done’ with a playlist. But, I will send you all the link to it here!

It has some classic Halloween songs. You can’t have a Halloween playlist without Thriller or This is Halloween. If you have any recommendations of some of your favorite Halloween jams to add to it let me know. Listening to this playlist makes me feel so happy. It feels so celebratory of a part of me that doesn’t come to life, but a very short time of a year. No matter what I want to enjoy this time. So I will. Because life.. life is far to short to let go of what’s good when it’s found.

Thanks for reading! I hope you all enjoy the playlist. I hope that it reminds you all of the joy of Halloween. A time where belief and reality have a very thin line. Let me know your thoughts down in the comments below! Have a wonderful spooky month ahead!

Happy Valentines Day!

Today is February 14th! A day for lovers to meet and proclaim their love for one another and spend the day in passions and day dreams. But if your like me and are single (18 years and I’ve never dated) and you don’t have plans to hang out with friends or family (plus if your me you have university to go to, and homework to do) what do you do?

Well, as soon as free time presents itself, it’s great to go out and get some chocholate covered strawberries, and some sweethearts, to eat and save for the rest of the week. Then, it’s great to sick back, relax, read a book, and listen to some lovely music. However because it’s Valentine’s Day and your feeling a bit romantic you listen to some cheesy sappy tunes.

Here is: My Sappy Playlist

Disclaimer: These songs are not just sappy, but many of them are also a bit dancy. There are some really cheesy songs though, you have been warned! Also, every single song on this list is one I love, in my heart of hearts I am a hopeless romantic, if this isn’t your type of thing, I am sorry, but in the end I am who I am.

On to the music, (for real this time!)
1. Shape of You – Ed Sheeran

2. Give Me Love – Ed Sheeran

(I could make this whole list with just Ed Sheeran songs, I am in love with his voice, but I will leave it with two of my favorites)

3. Clarity – Zedd

(Clarity is not typically thought of as a Love song, but these lyrics connect somewhere deep inside my soul, this is my favorite song of all time for a reason)

4. I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing – Aerosmith

(One of the most beautiful classic love songs, I find it so relaxing)

5. Earned It – The Weeknd

(I know, I know, it’s 50 shades of grey, but I gotta admit, I love the song!)

6. I Need your Love – Calvin Harris Ft. Ellie Goulding

(‘I need to be free with you tonight’ these lyrics are beautiful and I love to sing them. It’s been a while since I’ve heard this song, I missed it!)

7. Rather Be – Clean Bandit Ft. Jess Glynne

(This song makes me so so happy! Rather Be has always been such an uplifting song, my heart beats faster just listening to it)

8. Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol

(This one breaks my heart, it makes me feel so much within the melody and notes alone. It’s almost a tearjerker for me.)

9. Hero – Enrique Iglesias

(This wouldn’t be a Valentines playlist without this song. Probably the cheesiest of them all, but whoever you are you know somewhere deep deep deep deep deep deep deep deep down, you love this song)

10. A Thousand Years – Christina Perri

(As a book lover, whose love for books was truly sparked in the Twilight craze, there is no way this song couldn’t make an appearance and it is honestly beautiful)

11. I See the Light – Tangled, Mandy Moore

(Nothing melts the heart better then a Disney romance, and Tangled takes the cake. This song gives me the feels!)

12. Jealous – Labrith

(This song gets me everytime. I just want to close my eyes and let the lyrics wash over me. There is more then love in this song, it is a story, a story that breaks you yet fills you up. Simply captivating.)
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed. What songs do you listen to on this lovely day?

The Diviners Playlist

I just started reading The Diviners by Libba Bray and I am getting so many flappers vibes that I decided that I wanted to make a 1920’s Diviners Playlist!

When I was in high school my English teacher was a huge enthusiast of the 1920’s and after we read “The Great Gatsby” we learned how to dance the Charleston, as well as other 1920’s dances.

If you are interested here is a How to Dance the Twisting Charleston (My favorite!) click here!

On to the Music!

Ain’t We Got Fun Peggy Lee (first lyrics meantioned in the book) Link.

Angel Child Louis Armstrong Link.

“Yes, Sir! That’s My Baby!” Lee Morse Link.

Who’s Sorry Now Marion Harris Link.

“Ain’t She Sweet?” Gege Austin Link.

Swanee Al Johnson Link.

Look for the Silver Lining Marion Harris Link.

Here is a quick video of flappers dancing in memorium to Ruta Badowski (the start of it all) here.

I am so so happy that I thought to do this post! It was so much fun to do. I hope you enjoyed reading it! (I think this encaptures how big of a nerd I actually am) I love the 1920’s and I am so excited to be reading a book in that era.
