30 Days of Gratitude

These past 30 days I chose to do a gratitude challenge to remind myself of all the incredible things in life there is to be grateful for.

30 days of gratitude challenge: https://pin.it/juwrhlffx7knol

September 18th, 2019

Day 1: What are you most grateful for today?

Today, I’m most grateful for how far I’ve come. My mind is clear. My heart is clear. I am satisfied with who I am. I’ve made full peace with past mistakes. I’ve made peace with all of my past. I’m focusing on a better future. I’m always doing things that I love to do and I’m practicing being happy and fully myself all of the time. I’m keeping my commitments and I’m the strongest mentally and physically that I’ve ever been. So, I guess I’m most grateful for myself. Because I never gave up on myself and I stayed as positive as possible even when it was only to say that it’s ok to feel bad at a point and that I wasn’t always going to feel that way. So I’m proud of myself.

September 19th, 2019

Day 2: What Technology are you most grateful for?

My phone is probably the most important piece of technology that I’m grateful for. Because it’s what I use most for everything. Music, Reading, writing, gaming, video watching, socializing. Everything’s on my phone. Pictures of memories. My financial applications. I used to do online college from my phone. So it is the technology I am most grateful for.

September 20th, 2019

Day 3: What food are you most grateful for?

I love a good tamale or pupusa. But, I think I’m most grateful for Del tacos bean and cheese burritos. They’ve been a go to non-expensive food item that have kept me fed many many times since I was little. That and McDonald’s chicken nuggets, which are also a childhood favorite.

September 21st, 2019

Day 4: What memory in life are you most grateful for?

I’ll never forget the moment as a little girl coming home from flying on my own and running into my dad’s arms after thinking I’d never see him or the rest of my family again. He hugged me so tight it hurt, but I will never forget that hug. It reminds me that no matter what I will always love my family.

September 22nd, 2019

Day 5: What item in your home are you most grateful for?

I’m picking a mundane item for this because that is how I want to interpret this question. So the mundane item in my home I am most grateful for is the family coffee pot. Really recently, my mom finally purchased a coffee pot and since then I’m always drinking coffee. Recently, we’ve had pumpkin spice as well as red velvet flavored coffee that has been delicious. So I’m really grateful to have the coffee pot.

September 23rd, 2019

Day 6: What in nature are you most grateful for?

Literally all the animals! Animals are a gift to us all. They are so human and every single one of them is a unique blessing. I adore them.

September 24th, 2019

Day 7: What book are you most grateful for?

This is a very difficult question. I am grateful for so many books. I guess I have to say Twilight because it is the book that got me into reading in the first place. My life would be very different if I never read that book. So despite it not being the best book, I owe a lot to it.

September 25th, 2019

Day 8: What lesson in life are you most grateful for experiencing?

Day 8 is getting a bit heavy. The end of last year and the beginning of this year were some of the toughest months of my life. My mental state was not the best and my dad was in the worst part of his illness. I felt lost and utterly and completely alone. I found in myself such inner strength from dealing with all of that. I now find myself genuinely happy. I became very independent during this period and I learned how to be my own anchor and I also learned how to not take what other people say or do personally. Even things that my family would say that hurt. I learned to change my perspective. To stay grounded in who I am and what I believe. To do the best I can no matter what. But I also learned to follow joy wherever it is found. I don’t think of my dad’s illness in the same way. I don’t feel hopeless. I don’t feel alone. I understand myself better and I understand being human better. I am different now, but also very much the same. So I’m grateful for how the hard times teach the most valuable lessons.

September 26th, 2019

Day 9: What place have you traveled that you are most grateful for?

When I went to San Diego and swam with the dolphins when I was a kid. That’s such a bucket list experience and I was happy to have had it. It was a really amazing experience.

September 27th, 2019

Day 10: What are you most grateful for in your childhood?

I’m grateful for God’s hand in my childhood. I don’t speak much about religion. I’m not here to preach or tell anyone how to live their lives, but I cannot deny God’s hand in my life. Before I was born, my family made a decision to move to a specific place not realizing that that was where they would meet me. I came into their care in a daycare and in so many ways I’ve never left. I’ve always felt guided. I also always felt like I could trust that everything would be ok because I was put where I was for a reason. Especially one experience where I was bit in the eye by a dog and they got my eyelid completely but missed my eyeball. I’m grateful I have sight in both eyes because of that. If that wasn’t a miracle I don’t know what is.

September 28th, 2019

Day 11: What movie are you most grateful for?

This is difficult. Only because I’ve rarely ever thought of movies in a way of being grateful towards them the same way I do for books. But, I have to say that recently it was Endgame. Spoilers: when I saw that Captain Rodgers actually did get to live out a full life with Peggy when I thought that was impossible it released a wave of both happiness and pain inside me. Or rather it transformed pain into joy. It gave me hope to know that in life what’s meant to be will be and that the universe works in incredible and mysterious ways. Most of the time not in the way you think it will.

September 29th, 2019

Day 12: What 3 people in life are you most grateful for?

This is an easy question. My mom, dad, and my sister. I wouldn’t be who I am without them. Even if we don’t always get along perfectly, my life would be radically different without them. I love them with all my heart.

September 30th, 2019

Day 13: what season of the year are you most grateful for?

I am super grateful for fall. The weather is cooler. Things get spooky. I feel more alive and there is Halloween to look forward to and Christmas is not too far behind. It’s one of the most exciting times of the year.

October 1st, 2019

Day 14: What rejection in life are you most grateful for?

In my life, I have experienced many rejections. Mostly from people.. and I’m not just talking about crushes. But, I think the rejection I am most grateful for is the very first one. I don’t like calling it rejection, but my biological mom gave up her rights to keep me and gave me to my grandmother on my dad’s side. From there my grandmother in a way gave me to a family during daycare and while she was in my life after for the most part that family raised me. I wouldn’t be who I am without that first pass off or from the second. It was like baby hot potato. But, I have a family who raised me from love so I’m glad for it. I don’t know if I’d like who I am if I was raised elsewhere. I love the life I was granted. I would never have wanted my life to be different.

October 2nd, 2019

Day 15: What about your body are you most grateful for?

I’m grateful for all of my body. My ability to see and hear and touch and taste. I’m grateful for how my body heals. I’m grateful for my brain. I’m grateful for my bodies ability to adapt. To strengthen itself and show me that I’m capable of far more than I often believe. My body has gotten me up everyday and has experienced many beautiful things. I have learned to treasure it. I didn’t always feel that way.

October 3rd, 2019

Day 16: What band are you most grateful for?

The only true answer to this is Linkin Park. Even if I feel like in a way I shouldn’t be allowed to say so. It deeply reminds me of someone I care about and I don’t really know how they feel about me now, but Linkin Park is their favorite band and so I’m not sure about saying this answer even if it’s the only real answer to me that is true. Linkin Park’s Music is beautiful. It’s pulled so many people out of darkness. I even saw a video of a woman who used their lyrics to save a man’s life from committing suicide. Music that saves lives. Music that inspires people to walk in the light in a way that doesn’t shut out the fact that the dark exists. That’s incredible music. I am immensely grateful for it.

October 4th, 2019

Day 17: What about your job are you most grateful for?

I am grateful that I have it. That things have gotten better within it. That the majority of the people are worth working with, especially when it wasn’t always like that.

October 5th, 2019

Day 18: What trait do you have that you are most grateful for?

I am grateful for my sense of loyalty. Not necessarily just to people I care about, but to my ideals. I do my best everyday to be the best person I can be and to treat others well. The very basis of who I am is someone who wants to do some good in this life. Sometimes I mess up, but that’s ok. It all comes with being human.

October 6th, 2019

Day 19: What splurge item do you own that you are most grateful for?

I’m not lying when I say I never splurge. It’s not because I don’t want to it’s more that I convince myself that I’m better off saving for something for someone else. Or for an emergency. Last month I went to go by pants for myself at Forever 21 and I got these great pants for only $3.90 and they look amazing, but I got them for a very low amount. I’m really good at getting nice items for low prices. This includes books (which often come to me for free). I’m probably one of the lowest maintenance people out there. But, I have to admit if I see some shoes from Aldo or some sweatshirts and clothing from hot topic I want to buy them. Especially now that hot topic has this Hocus Pocus sweatshirt with witchy sleeves for $80 and I want that so bad. But, with Christmas coming I’m not even allowed to buy myself stuff. Talking about this makes me want to do a little splurging on myself. Maybe I’ll make a point of it after the year ends.

October 7th, 2019

Day 20: What are you most grateful for in your daily life?

I’m most grateful for the food I have to eat. Everyday I always have something and it’s usually something pretty tasty and the fact that I can eat everyday and try new foods when I want to is a wonderful thing.

October 8th, 2019

Day 21: What small item that you use daily are you most grateful for?

My earphones. They allow me to watch and listen to whatever I want without bothering anyone else with what I’m watching. They also help me to concentrate on one thing, especially if I’m listening to music while writing.

October 9th, 2019

Day 22: What Thanksgiving memory are you most grateful for?

Weirdly enough when I was a vegetarian for two years and this one thanksgiving my grandmother took me to her friends home for dinner and everyone tried to convince me to eat meat and I kept saying no. I’m grateful for this memory because it’s one of the first times I decided something about myself for myself that wouldn’t be changed because others thought it was strange. I may not be vegetarian now, but I do miss it. I never really learned how to do it properly and having to eat out quite a bit in a world where there isn’t always a vegetarian friendly option (looking at you in-n-out) I don’t really push it too much.

October 10th, 2019

Day 23: What use of your phone are you most grateful for?

The use I’m using right now. The ability to write blog posts and connect with others who share the same passions as I do. The amount of blessings I’ve received from blogging have been infinite and I will never ever regret one second of the journey I began 3 years ago! I truly am grateful for the friendships and opportunities that have opened up for me since starting and I know that there will be many more in the future!

October 11th, 2019

Day 24: What about social media are you most grateful for?

This is mostly a reiteration of yesterday. Because the social media I am most grateful for and that I care most about is WordPress. Blogging is an incredible thing. It’s changed my life multiple times. I know it will continue to in the future.

October 12th, 2019

Day 25: What are you most grateful for in your city?

That I live in a place with such a diverse amount of people and how you can go down a single street and see many different cultures and people living alongside one another.

October 13th, 2019

Day 26: What meal did you have today that you are most grateful for?

Both breakfast and lunch. My sister made food both times and when she makes it is always delicious. I had oatmeal in the morning and a meat soup with garlic bread for lunch. Both were amazing!

October 14th, 2019

Day 27: What are you most grateful for in your country?

I’m going to give a real answer for this, because I’m not always super patriotic and politics makes me angry and I can rant about certain things in politics for ages and get nowhere so.. that’s that. What I’m grateful for in this country is the people in it. No matter what craziness is going on the majority of Americans are good people who want to fight for what’s right. It’s the unity that I see in those who protest and who see injustice and call it out that truly make me feel good to be an American.

October 15th, 2019

Day 28: What about your home are you most grateful for?

I’m most grateful for having a home. A place to sleep. A place to keep myself clean and fed. A place where I feel safe. There isn’t really anything about it I’m more grateful for then anything else. All of it is precious to me.

October 16th, 2019

Day 29: What bill are you most grateful to be able to pay?

All of them? Rent is huge because without it I would have no place to live. My phone has everything and if I couldn’t pay that bill no one would be reading this now. Bills are such a necessary thing. The basics of living so I’m grateful to be able to pay them all.

October 17th, 2019

Day 30: What experience this month are you most grateful for?

I’m grateful for having dedicated myself to doing this and my yoga practice. I’m grateful because I’ve noticed that through these two things I’ve been able to reduce my anxiety and depression and to feel myself again. I’m so much happier today than I once was and I did that myself and for myself. I’m excited for the future and I’m excited for each day and that’s the greatest gift I’ve ever given myself.

Q & A

For my 2000 follower celebration I announced I was going to be doing a Q and A. So here it is!

These were your questions:

Life of Angela

Asks:

What book genre do you tend to avoid (if any)?

I am always happy to read anything within the ya sphere of reading. Young adult fiction no matter the genre it takes fascinates me and I don’t really know of any genres inside it that I could say I avoid. However I don’t ever read much adult fiction. It’s a world that I don’t yet connect to and while I have enjoyed a few adult novels I like the scope of ya and the themes and how they are dealt with feel really authentic to me. Adult fiction feels like a really broad place that deals with subjects that I’m not quite ready for, but I hope to read more adult fiction in the future.

Ignited Moth

Asks:

What’s your favorite time of day to do most of your reading?

I honestly don’t have a favorite time. I love reading whenever I can so anytime is a good time for me. I love reading in the morning or before going to bed. Even while I’m eating or just have a few minutes in the car before work. Reading is a special part of my day and I try and I try to do it as much as I can.

Have you read any books where you found yourself enjoying the antagonist more than the protagonist?

The only instance of this that I could think of is And I Darken, but really it isn’t a matter of me enjoying any antagonist more it’s more that no one in that book is perfectly moral. In a way everyone is an antagonist to someone else and I live for it. Everyone is morally ambiguous and has their own agenda. It’s what makes the series so delicious.

Fanatic Girl 6

Asks:

If you had to choose a romance book type, would it be more of an angsty one or a lighthearted fluffy one?

I think there are times where I would pick up either, but for the most part the fluffy kind is what I’d pick up because I want something lighthearted to balance out a lot of the darker stuff I read in other genres. Sometimes I just want to feel warm and fluffy.

Laura Beth

Asks:

1. What was the first book you remember reading?

The first book I remember reading was this little children’s book about The Ugly Duckling along with some Dr. Seuss books. However, the book that got me into reading for fun was Twilight in 5th grade and I haven’t looked back since.

2. Is there any book that you think should be burned / banished forever?

I wish Mein Kampf by Hitler never existed. Books that inspire hatred in one group towards another should never exist.

3. Is there a book that you dream of reading, but haven’t yet?

I can’t help it but to say I dream of reading Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I am really drawn to it’s over and I love Laini Taylor’s writing so I hope to have a copy of it someday soon!

Thanks so much for reading! Thank you to everyone who asked questions I really enjoyed answering these! I hope you are all having a wonderful day!

WWW- Wednesday

It’s Wednesday! Which means it is time to talk about What I just finished reading, what I’m currently reading and what I will be reading next! I would also love to hear your answers to this done in the comments.

What I just finished reading:

Alone by Cyn Balog

When her mom inherits an old, crumbling mansion, Seda’s almost excited to spend the summer there. The grounds are beautiful and it’s fun to explore the sprawling house with its creepy rooms and secret passages. Except now her mom wants to renovate, rather than sell the estate—which means they’re not going back to the city…or Seda’s friends and school.

As the days grow shorter, Seda is filled with dread. They’re about to be cut off from the outside world, and she’s not sure she can handle the solitude or the darkness it brings out in her.

Then a group of teens get stranded near the mansion during a blizzard. Seda has no choice but to offer them shelter, even though she knows danger lurks in the dilapidated mansion—and in herself. And as the snow continues to fall, what Seda fears most is about to become her reality…

This book was creepy and unsettling, but oddly cute too! My full review will be up for you all tomorrow.

What I am currently reading: I jus

I Like You Like This by Heather Cumiskey

In 1984 Connecticut, sixteen-year-old Hannah Zandana feels cursed: She has wild, uncontrollable hair and a horrid complexion that she compulsively picks, and as if that weren’t bad enough, her emotionally unavailable parents mercilessly ridicule her appearance and verbally shame her.

Wanting to change her pathetic life, Hannah attempts to impress a group of popular girls—an ill-fated effort, except that she captures the attention of Deacon, a handsome and mysterious boy who also happens to be her school’s resident drug dealer. Suddenly, Hannah’s life takes an unexpected detour into Deacon’s dangerous and seductive world—but when her relationship and family unravel around her, she is forced to reexamine what she believes about herself and the people she trusts the most.

I just started reading this book a little bit ago so I don’t have an opinion yet, but I have high hopes for this being a great read!

What I will be reading:

The Denounced: Book 1 A Grey Sun by S.J. Sherwood

A convicted Denounced, sentenced to Death.

When sixteen-year-old Ned is wrongly convicted and kidnapped to a secret location, he meets ninety ‘Denounced’, and a terrifying truth begins to unfold – one that will change the world forever.

Forced to lead a Pod of five, Ned begins to realise thousands of lives could depend upon him. A survivor by nature, he now has to face his past, confront his destiny, and fight a System that has never lost.

A Grey Sun is the first in a three-part series following six Denounced teenagers as they struggle to live in a world where a simple mistake will cost you your life…

I am so excited to be reading this book! It sounds like a fun dystopian adventure that will take me on a really fun journey to remember.

Thanks so much for reading! Let me know your own answers for WWW- Wednesday.

An Anecdote

We are 65% water 16% straight fat

19% Other and those are straight facts

There is no measurement for ideals

No measurement for compassion

No way to stitch inside us our likes our passions

No way to tell our favorites from the dark matter

living inside our skulls. Hidden away to be kept safe

If we only idolize what we can see

and we can’t surmise our beliefs from our beating hearts

does it exist, or even matter? In this era of mechanical love

National Poetry Month: Sonnet 130

Shakespeare intrigues me. He intrigues me in the way that if he was alive today I would befriend him and find that he is probably the mixture of a geek and a dork and I would love that. I say this because from my minimal experience of his work has lead me to that conclusion. He seems to lack a bit of tact though he is not without wit and he has a sense of humor about him.

This Sonnet is the embodiment of who I believe Shakespeare to be. He teases his love in this peace and in no small way I adore him for it. The couples I love tend to tease one another in this sort of way and it feels so warm to me to think that Shakespeare acted in this way as well.
Thank you all for reading! Let me know your thoughts in the comments. I know this is a bit of a weird post, but I’ve been thinking about mister Shakespeare quite a bit lately and this was one of the things I would think about most.

Also I’m curious, what are your thoughts on Romeo and Juliet? I haven’t read it, but I’m on the fence about weather or not I should give it a chance.

500 Followers & a Q & A

Every single milestone I hit I find myself in shock. I started creating my little corner of the internet because of my love for books, hoping to share my heart with all of you. I never expected for my words to ever reach so many people and I can’t believe the growth that has come from the passion that lives inside me.

Without all the love that has poured out from this community I truly would be just a speck of dust floating on the wind. In many ways I still am, but from all your support I feel just the tiniest bit bigger.

From my heart to yours, Thank you!

I can’t believe that I’ve hit 500 followers!

Last milestone I had mentioned I wanted to create a Q & A so that I could answer any questions you all may have for me. I am now happy to say it is here!

Questions from awesome bloggers in this community

Seaweed Books asks

What’s  your Hogwarts and Ilvermorny house?

According to the buzz feed sorting hat quiz I belong in Ravenclaw! However my percentages are:  32% Ravenclaw, 30% Hufflepuff, 20% Gryffindor, and 18% Slytherin! Missed Hufflepuff by just a hair!

I am also apparently part of the Thunderbird house. I love that it represents the soul that truly is what I’m all about!

 Favourite genre?

Fantasy is what brought me into the reading world and it will be what I love most till death takes me out of the reading world.

A hyped book you didn’t like?

There really hasn’t been any overly hyped books that I didn’t like. The ones I know I probably wouldn’t like I don’t read. It’s saved me from the fandom hate…..

Favorite thing about the WordPress book community you love.

Reading all your lovely posts! The blogging community is such a hardworking community and reading everyone’s posts make me so happy!

Ava the Nerd asks
What is your favourite food?

Quesadillas! I have some almost every night and they always taste delicious to me!

Your favourite anime?

Angel Beats is so beautiful and hilarious yet at other times heartbreaking! Plus the intro music is just stunning!

What are you most afraid of?

Fire is beautiful to look at, but truly I am afraid of burning myself accidentally from my clumsiness. I am also irrationally afraid of knifes, I can hold one and I can use them, but if someone else is using one I am always afraid that they will accidentally stab me or me accidentally stabbing them from tripping or something. Which actually almost happened, my mom was holding a knife tripped with it in her hand and almost stabbed me where I was sitting in my chair… thank God for that chair! Mostly I’m afraid of accidentally hurting myself or others, but fire and knifes are the worst.

Evy Reads Books Blog asks

How do you organise your bookshelves?

By author and genre mostly and somewhat series vs. standalones. I’m running out of shelf space so my shelves as kinda a mess right now.

How do you find time to read?

Well I do my best to forget about all the things I am supposed to be doing, hide, and read some glorious books! Also, this month I gave up YouTube so that helps immensely.
Amy’s Book Corner asks
What got you into reading?

I call Twilight my gateway drug and my 5th grade teacher Ms. Ohonion my dealer. This book was the first real book that I ever read. It began something that will be a part of my life forever.

Why did you decide to do a blog dedicated to your love of reading? Did you find it hard?

Because books are something I love so much I never find book blogging tedious or hard. I give myself to every post I make and I love every second of it. The blogging community itself and the response I get makes any issue I would ever have completely invalid.

If you chose one book to take to a vacation with you, which one would you choose?

Currently, I would take my signed copy of And I Darken! I need to read it and a vacation would be a lovely way to got read it.
Write Ally Write! asks
how would you describe yourself in three words?

Brilliantly Bookish asks
Have you sorted yourself in a camp Halfblood cabin?

There is something about me and cabins with birds… anyway I am a daughter of Zeus! The air is my domain. Your getting all my cabins in this post!

Is there a language you would love to learn?

All the languages! Seriously… all of them, but if I had to choose one it would be:

French is such a beautiful language, it would be a amazing to be able to speak it.

What is your favourite fandom?

Uhh… you can’t make me choose on this one… nope.. not happening.

Olga’s Oddish Obsession asks
If you could only choose one book to read for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It would have to be a random novel that the universe grants to me… to choose would be agonizing.. I’d rather God decide he knows what’s best for me (p.s. The Bible doesn’t count to me, Scripture doesn’t feel much like reading a book)

Have you written a story you would like to publish one day?

I’m always trying to write as much as I can and even though I have only one book finished there are many poems and little stories I would love to see published. Plus I’m on my way to writing many more books!

Creative Minds 101 asks
Why did you start your blog?

My sole reason for starting this blog was my undying love for books. I always had so much to say about what I read and no place to say them and so The Book Raven was born! (Special thanks to my sister who pushed me towards this path)

Who is your favorite author?

Julie Kagawa is not only my favorite author, but she is my idol. I don’t know how she writes so prolifically and so well, but I aspire to write at her level!

The Belgian Reviewer asks

what’s the name of the book that everybody seems to love but you?

I really enjoyed Divergent, but I didn’t love it. It is a fun read though.

what’s the book that nobody seems to love, but you?

I adore this book! Most people either love it or hate it, but mostly people dislike it. Something about this book makes me love it and I am not ashamed!
Whimsically Meghan asks
What’s your favourite colour?

Tardis blue! This color is so beautiful and I wish I saw it as an official color!

Follow up: Do you think you read books based on your favourite colour being the on the cover?

I wish there were books with tardis blue on the cover! I don’t ever see it, but I’d definitely buy one with it!

That’s all for the questions!

Thank you all so much for being here. This journey has been one of so much hope and happiness for me. I hope all the best for all of you. Much love, stay safe, and stay awesome! All you do means the world to me.

As always, let me know your thoughts in the comments!! What do you think I should do for my next milestone? Your thoughts are always very much appreciated!

Bells and Whistles

There are all these embellishments in life

Put there to make the world a bit prettier

A flower in a pot, swirling designs on paper,

The little freckles on the face of a cute boy you saw last Sunday

Except nothing in this world stays the same

The flower grows dies and a new one takes its place

The paper crumbles, the freckles increase and Darken

Those things you thought were pretty appeal to you no longer

Beauty is a bit like cloud watching

Every fluffy cloud is something different to different people

I guess that just means there is truly someone for everyone

But even the plainest of people can be changed by the right bells and whistles

People change like the clouds

Constantly moving forward in a blur

Coming back to you unrecognizable

Masks come off

Masks are put on

Natural becomes misshapen

Plastic elements melt away

We are built by relics of our previous selves

Taking fractured pieces from you at all the stages your life creating one being

One moment and the pieces break evermore

Another and the glass of hope and you are made whole again

So who are we?

Are we who we are now or are we our past?

Or are we who we choose to be by our embellishments?

Or are we truly a swirling storm of all our decisions, pieces, and looks….

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this piece of poetry. I’ve been thinking a lot about what I make of the world recently and somehow this piece felt necessary. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Sunshine Blogger Award: Times 3

KaylaBooks, Boxes, and Baubles questions:

1. Dogs or Cats or Hamsters and why?

How about all of them living in harmony with a rabbit? They are all too cute! You can’t make me decide… you simply can’t!

2. If you could live in any period and any place in time when and where would it be?

How about the 1920’s? Life is flashing all around you, the music is lovely, and I could dance my nights away!

3. What is the last book you hated and why?

I’ve never felt such hatred for a main character, I do not appreciate or approve his actions, plus this book is hits hard, but in a bad way, definitely not my taste.

4. Favorite author and favorite book (not necessarily by the same author)?

Julie Kagawa a.k.a The Queen of fantasy and The Giver a.k.a the book that made me feel more then I ever felt and lead me into a whole new world of books.

5. What is something you wish people knew about you?

I wish people knew that I wasn’t the best at communicating verbally. I wish people knew that for normal outside of a classroom situation type of talking freaks me out. I wish people knew that I am a huge over thinker and if I share too much or say something off the wall or sound rude it comes from insecurity. I don’t know how you will react to me so I actdefensive  and my words get mixed up. I don’t mean to push away, but on the inside I get really scared.

6. How long have you been blogging?

About 4 and a half months! It’s been some of the most wonderful and amazing months of my life!

7. What is your favorite type of character in a book?

I don’t come by The nerd often, but when I do I smile. These characters have a special place in my heart.

8. What is your favorite TV show?

Intense, spooky, and captivating. Need I say more?

9. What is your favorite holiday? Why?

Nothing lifts my spirit like Christmas does, nothing! It’s one of the few holiday that truly makes me believe in magic.

10. What 3 famous/fictional people, living or dead, would you want at your fantasy dinner party?

Jesus, Morpheus (from Splintered), and Charlotte Bronte. You can make your own judgement about how this dinner party goes.

11. What’s your pet peeve(s)?

When girls take off their heels before getting into the car or being at home. I see this all the time. Yes, heels hurt. Yes, I know most people do this. It simply bothers me. I know before I put heels on that it is going to be a pain and I know it looks worse just carrying them in my hands walking barefooted with sandals on. We wear heels for a reason, taking them off and complaining about them ruins it.

SophieBlame it on Chocolate questions:

1. Would you prefer to have a job you loved and earn less or one you hated but earned more?

My dream is to be a writer. You don’t write because you think money, fame, or fortune will follow. You write because their is something in your soul that needs to be shared. It is an ache within you that will break you unless you release it into the world.
2. If you could bring one extinct animal back, what would it be?

The Dodo bird! Cumbersome, but so cute. I really wish they still existed.

3. What’s more appealing to you, living in a past era or in the future?

How about a non-exsisting mixture of both? Steampunk as an era is just so appealing to me.

4. Do you usually go for the painful truth or blissful ignorance?

The only way to change is if you acknowledge the truth of how the world is now. To truly be positive, you must live through the negative.

5. Do you have any weird habits that freak everyone out?

My favorite sauce is BBQ Sauce and two things I put it on that makes people uncomfortable is rice and vegetables. It honestly makes everything taste so good!

6. Do you usually wear bright clothes or neutral ones?

I wear mostly neutral colors, but I have an affinity for the bright ones. I feel like I will wear more bright colors after I loose some weight around my middle. Neutral colors are great for looking thinner then you are.

7. If you had to see through tinted lenses for the rest of life, what color would they be?

A light blue. I feel like the world would look a bit less harsh that way.

8. Do you trust your instincts/are impulsive or do you prefer to calmly examine the situation before you?

I am definitely way more of a person of instinct. Everything I do, including what I blog is based on a whim. I believe that everything will work out the way they were meant to and usually that is how things end up to be.

9. If you had to choose to live with only two senses, which would they be? (Touch, smell, taste, sight…)

Hearing and sight, in order for me to live in my greatest loves in life I need to be able to see the world and to hear its music. Plus if I can’t taste, feel, or smell, I could eat anything… including healthy food and would never complain about the taste or texture of it again.

10. When someone says you can’t do something, do you go and do it just to prove them wrong or do you just ignore them?

Nothing is more empowering then this.

11. Would you go on the Mars One mission, a once in a lifetime experience, even if it meant never returning to Earth and never seeing your loved ones again?

The red giant may be beautiful. Space is even more so, but I have no desire to leave behind those I love to step foot on it.

Krysti Ya and Wine questions:

1. If you could have a glass of wine with any author, living or dead, who would it be?

Julie Kagawa of course! I have so many questions for her. The way she writes is beautiful and I want to know how she continuously stays inspired. As I have previously said, she is the queen of fantasy! I would love to meet and speak with someone who inspires the love of creation in me and so many others.

2. Which debut novel are you most looking forward to in 2017?

The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas is a novel about a topic close to my heart. The Black Lives Matter movement is something that we need not be afraid to talk about. I have yet t0 read this book, but I am so excited to read it soon!

3. What book are you head-over-heels in cover love with?

AND I DARKEN!!! Looking at the cover digitally does not do it justice. I was lucky enough to win a signed hardcover copy of this book this month and I cannot describe how beautiful this book is in person. Gorgeous!

3. Which author have you been most excited about interacting with online?

Diana Anderson-Tyler!! She has been one of the kindest people I have ever gotten the chance to speak with and she is such an inspiration to me. I never expected to be able to speak with her and now that I have she is honestly one of my favorite people.

4. If you could write your own novel, what genre would it be?

If!?!? Why is this phrased like a hypothetical question? Why am I breaking down slowly because of it… I’m a writer… I swear… I write stuff. Ahhh!

I am currently writing a Fantasy book, but I am also writing a contemporary. Honestly I have ideas for novels in almost ever genre. I can’t seem to choose just one of anything!

5. I REALLY liked Mandy’s question about “what authors are instal-buys for you?” So yeah, that one!

Julie Kagawa (didn’t see that one coming… did ya?), Jennifer Donnelly, A.G. Howard, Laini Taylor, (if I finally got a Sarah J. Maas book in my hand I would have been able to put her here), Ellen Hopkins, Erin Morgenstern (I cry that she’s only written The Night Circus! I need more from her), Dawn Kurtagich, Diana Anderson-Tyler, Samantha Shannon, Cassandra Clare (desperately trying to collect her books in order to binge read them), Libby Bray…. etc. etc.

6. What series are you currently following that you never want to end?

Storm and Silence!!! Please, please, please, please, please never end!! I need this series to go on forever. It is just too good!

7. Who is your best book bae?

8. Share a link to one of your favorite blog posts that you’ve done.

Books of Christmas Past, Present, and Future!

I’m so proud of these three! It is a tradition I hope to continue on for the rest of my life. I’m so happy with how each of these came out. They are like little children to me.

9. What is your favorite part about being book blogger?

Above pic has nothing to do with my answer, but I felt like putting memes in this post and this one felt so accurate that I couldn’t say no!

I love everything about blogging. The writing, the interaction, reading others posts, commenting, looking for pictures, and coming up with new ideas. I love it all! No true favorites in this post!

10. Share a pic of you and your book bestie, cause we all need one of those.

Sadly accurate…

  • Answer the award questions that will be listed below.
  • Write a Fifty Word Story, because it’s fun.
  • Award five or more bloggers with this Award.
  • Ask them a question of your making, you’ll like them to answer.
  • Put up the award image badge on your blog via image widget.

AWARD QUESTIONS:

A book you started but never finished…but want to finish. What stopped you from continuing to read it?

Revival by Stephan King. It is really slow and there is not much going on inside it. It didn’t pique my interest much, but as the first book I ever started reading from Stephan King I wanted to do my best to finish it.
What elements attract you to a book, which makes you need to read it?

One of the most interesting things I find about books are the premise. If the book is surrounded by a unique idea that captures my attention I will definitely read it. I also love retellings, I’m a huge sucker for a good retellings. Plus, most fantasy and contemporary novels surrounding mental illness pique my interest.
Which books do you prefer, e-copy or hard copy?

Usually I would say a physical copy, but thanks to netgalley I’ve been really into e-books lately so I really don’t mind either way.
What book are you currently reading or going to read next?

I am currently reading 3 different books, Mask of Shadows, Use the Force, and The Bone Season. I am more then halfway through with all of them so I look forward to reviewing them all very soon!

The book I’m looking to read next is The Suffering Tree I’m doing my best to increase my netgalley ratio which is at 50% right now so after Mask of Shadows and this book it will be up to 70%.
Is it fair to judge a book by its film?

No, you can’t judge a book by it’s film or a film by it’s book. They are both two different mediums that accomplish things very differently.
What book did you badly judge by its cover and ended up loving?

Is it weird that this hasn’t happened yet? I sometimes judge a book by its cover, but most of the time I let the words speak for themselves. Usually if I don’t like a books cover I look to the synopsis, but I never think that a bad cover equals a bad book.
Which book character have you felt the most kin with and able to relate with?

Recently that has been Hawthorne from The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett. The way she sees the world reminds me of a younger me. The stories she creates from her loneliness are also things I can relate to.

Aldii’s question:

If you had to choose a genre to read for all your life (you won’t be able to read any other genre) which one would you choose?

Fantasy hands down! While I definitely read across most genres fantasy holds a special place in my heart and I couldn’t bare it if I couldn’t read the genre for the rest of my life. It is my comfort genre.
50ish WORD STORY:

There was a girl who saw the stars for what they really are. Gastric lights living and dying continuously before our eyes. She fell in love with all there parts. She understood the stars and was awed by them. She wished to live amoung them as particles of dust swarming around their firey bodies. 80 years past, as an old women she told her grandchildren her wish. Years after her death, her wish was granted, she soars now one with the stars. A part of the gorgeous lights that guide our way home.

The Entertainer Blogger Award

I was nominated for The Entertainer Blogger Award by Diana Prince Reviews! Diana has an inspiring blog that I absolutely love to read, if you haven’t already please check her posts out.

For some reason I could not find the original Award photo, and so I created my own that I hope you all enjoy. I know this probably looks nothing like the original, but for some reason I always lean toward a more grungy feel for things.

The Rules
1. Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.

2. Add these rules to your post.

3. Answer all the questions below.

4. Display the award picture in your post.

Nominate 7 other bloggers who are funny, inspiring and most important of all ENTERTAINING!
Q1. Why did you start a blog in the first place?

I started my blog on October 14th, 2016, thanks to the nagging of my sister to stop simply talking aloud about the books I love, but to post online and share my thoughts there. Besides, she also thought that it would be a great place to develop and share my writing, in hope that I might eventually get discovered or at the very least find my place amongst the fray.

Q2. What is your favourite book?

My favorite book at the moment is A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly. I read it this past December and fell utterly and completely in love with it! It made me want to read and never ever stop.

Q3. What do you dislike the most?

In all aspects of everything I dislike prejudice of any kind, but I hate when a certain prejudice is normalized, like it is something that is ok to feel and express. To me, we are all unique and beautiful humans, there is no reason to have prejudice just because someone acts, thinks, looks, or believes differently from yourself.

Q4. What is your favourite food item from the mall?

I love the Rajas con Queso tamales from the tamale house in the mall. They are delicious, especially with chilie.

Q5. What is your favourite pastime?

Well, reading books of course! This blog wouldn’t exist if that was not the truth. Traveling through time and space in a book is incredible. Everything that can be thought of is contained between pages of books.

I Nominate:

Dusk Angel Reads
Not Just Words

That Bookshelf Bitch

The Little Reading Blog
